“What they say”

September 2nd, 2010 by Iriega

My dad once said-

“Elle if you don’t have your health…

…you don’t have anything.”

He was right.

“We can give you 50 years”

I don’t want 50 years, I want forever.

“Check your sugars Elle”

“Take your insulin Elle”

“Have you checked your feet Elle?”

“When’s your next appointment Elle?”

“No relationship can survive contempt”

That’s what they say.

They also say ‘mental illness’

…when the impacts are all physical.

“Cheer up Elle, the world isn’t gonna move for you”

“What doesn’t kill you only makes you stronger”

“Ugh do you have to inject in public?”

“HOW ARE YOU?”

And this is what I say-

“They live in their perfect little boxes…

Shock and horror for anything outside of ‘normal’

And melt away at the first sign of trouble

Masks of happiness and false sympathy

Superficial pools, an endless ocean

False idols and false gods

‘God’s gonna save us’ Hah!

Anaesthesia- black nothing

The prelude to ‘after’

I can’t wait.”

Such a superficial world, no, humanity we’re living in nowadays, isn’t it?
I can relate with your poetry-writing, Iriega. that’s beautifully written.
it’s not that there are no genuine, sincere, heartfelt honest souls in this world, I believe they’re STILL here,..but it can just made me so depressed when I can find sadly only very very FEW of these kindred souls, in my Real everyday Life!
Maybe my burden & pains of emptiness and hopelessness would be alleviated had I met these kindred souls in my real life.. and maybe life then is still *worth* living, as long as I can still find and connect with these individuals,..and grow from there.

I know EXACTLY how you feel. Im diabetic and I have to go to the doctor every other month, and it sucks because when I was diagnosed I was 13 and my bloodsugar was 1500. NO JOKE. I can really relate. We should talk sometime. :)

Mad Vulcan- thank you…funnily enough I was watching Star Trek today haha

Niki- thank you and I agree with you. There are some very lovely people out there, they’re just few and far between.
