Amongst other things my doc has fed me a steady diet of benzos. Not sure if it helps or hurts. It helps with anxiety maybe makes depression worse. They are pretty safe but im sure they are harmful. Sometimes i stare at the bottle and wonder… so peaceful so obtainable so tempting…

I am in the exact same boat man, I try to only take them at night because I go insane when I try to get to bed. I just lay there, and the fucking thoughts just race. The only thing that turns them off is the little sleepy combo I’ve made for myself. I’m prescribed 4 mg of Xanax a day but I pop it all at once when I go to bed, I’m also prescribed seroquel and just recently temazepam (very lucky to have gotten that actually). So yeah advice, try to just limit it to taking it in the afternoon, if you are on anti-depressants you should feel better during the day making the benzos less tempting, but I know how bad the allure of them can be.
Also I should note that the half-life of your benzo is very important. Xanax has a very short half-life compared to something like Clonazepam which stays in your system for a very long time. I actually used to be on it but asked to switch to Xanax and I couldn’t be happier, so when I take it at night or sometimes during the day the “crash” isn’t too bad and almost non-existent when I take them at bedtime because most of the drug is out of my system by the time I wake up.
Yeah but the LD50 is ridiculous – do you have any idea how many you would have to take to even come close to killing yourself? You’re more likely to fuck yourself up – ruin your liver or something instead – then you get to live with THAT too..
Yeah I’d never recommend anyone wanting to commit suicide to OD on Benzos alone (I wouldn’t recommend anyone ever to commit suicide this is just hypothetically speaking). You will just wind up in the hospital with internal damage to your organs as you just described. If I were to do such an act other central nervous system depressants would be used together such as an opiate like oxycontin, alcohol, etc.
besides having one of the worst withdrawls, it can also cause rebound anxiety once you stop taking them. i would suggest something like ativan that has less side effects such as the drowsiness. but the drowsiness of xanax is what makes it perfect for taking at nighttime.
Never, never, never try that. Seriously, you’ll wind up with a whole lot more problems. I need K for my anxiety.. thru the roof right now. I’m afraid of taking Seroquil, does it really help you sleep. I have horrific insomnia. Good luck with everything!
So benzos would only mess things up worse huh? I think that would be the ultimate failure… try suicide and just end up more damaged. Valium and vodka for the 4th maybe? See one last light show and crash out forever? If i did that id just hate to wake up in a hospital. So even a few hundred mgs would just cause problems and not do the job… ugh.
@Immurement 4mg Xanax is way too much. How long have you taken it? 4mg Xanax is roughly 80mg of Valium, which is a lot. Go to benzobuddies site and get the taper advice as these drugs dumb our brains down. They mess up coordination/motor skills, congitive skills, short term memory and more.
Benzos are CNS depressants/downers and long-term use can cause really, really bad depression.
If you use them long-term (for more than 4 months), they lower your anxiety threshold and make it worse. Then you feel like you need more benzos to be normal again. I found out the hard way.
Benzos can also cause suicidal ideation, where you are constantly thinking about it, even though you’re not going to do it.
What dosage are you on? If you’re on a high dose, you will most likely have to taper to avoid seizures and other health complications and to lessen the anxiety. The length of use and dosage are the key.
Basically, 1mg of Ativan = 10mg Valium
0.5 mg of Xanax = 10 mg Valium
0.5 mg of Klonopin = 10mg Valium
Some people taper benzos directly and some cross over to valium since it is easier to taper than more potent benzos. If you are having problems, go to benzobuddies site and ask for help. They’ll give you great advice.
I have a ton of suicidal thoughts with benzos, but if you botch it and then get rescued, then you’ll have to be cold-turkeyed and prob reinstated later, and then you’ll have physical injuries in addition to a temporarily messed up brain….
