Does anyone feel like the most compassionate and kindest thing anyone could do is press a button that would instantly kill yourself and everyone else? If I were given that option, I would do it.
So many people live completely shit lives, and many would rather they hadn’t been born. Many only live due to a survival instinct we are born with. If everyone died instantly, there would be no more pain, no more suffering, no more hardship. Some might say “But there wouldn’t be any happiness, joy, or pleasure either!” However, it is an asymmetrical situation. If you are alive you can wish that you were dead, but someone who does not even exist yet cannot wish or hope to be born.
This is why if I were given the opportunity, I would instantly and painlessly kill all life on earth. True, organisms that are self-aware and can suffer will most likely evolve again eventually, but we can only do what we can.
In case you were interested, I am one of the ones who wishes that they weren’t born. I think the only reason I am holding off killing myself is to avoid hurting my family.
Does anyone else think this way at all? It seems only rational to me.

I’ve had exactly the same thoughts. I’d press the button. I think most people wouldn’t because they’d think about all the joy and happiness in the world. Should others be forced to live lives of suffering so that they can have their good time?
Technology is making the individual more and more powerful. I’ve wondered if one day people will become extinct, because one day an individual might have such a button, and an individual who would push the button might be able to.
Nice to know that someone else agrees, chiaroscuro. Most people are simply horrified at the very idea of killing and death, without really taking time to consider how altruistic it is.
