My Favorite Coping Strategies

I love this place already. You guys are an amazing bunch of misfits.

I want to share some of my coping strategies with you.

When I feel like cutting I

  1. “Cut” myself  by drawing lines with a marker
  2. Play with my pets
  3. Journal
  4. Draw
  5. Write a really nasty letter to whoever pissed me off… Then I rip it to shreds.
  6. Watch Rocky Horror Picture Show

When I’m having a panic attack

  1. I focus on an object and breathe in through my mouth, out  my nose
  2. Squeeze my stress ball (If I don’t I scratch my hands something awful)
  3. If I am calm enough by then I will play with my pets

When I feel depressed

  1. Talk it out
  2. Go for a walk
  3. Watch my favorite TV show
  4. Give my little brother a hug
  5. Journal
  6. Play with my pets
  7. Sing
  8. Compliment someone

When I feel suicidal

  1. I stay next to someone
  2. I talk
  3. I rant and vent
  4. I stab empty boxes with pencils

 

There is always something you can do… So feel free to take some of my coping skill if they’ll help. But, remember just because they work for me doesn’t mean they’ll work for you.

Sounds like you have some pretty good coping strategies. When you’re watching the RHPS do you get up and do the time warp?

I recommend small Mammals. Mainly because they show affection and can be empathetic. I have a picture of my hammy http://suicideproject.org/?attachment_id=135868 for everyone to see. I love animals.
