Do you ever imagine yourself in the freezer in the morgue?

I’ve imagined the lifeless corpse being discovered. I’ve imagined cremation. I’ve imagined the unspeakable agony associated with artificial or intrusive cessation of vital function, which is frequently combined with the aspect of irrecoverable grievous injury.

I’ve imagined awakening from a coma with severely disabling damage from a failed attempt. I’ve imagined what being stuck in a coma might be like (even though it’s possible that you might not even know… might be completely unaware of it, completely unconscious… or perhaps stuck in a perpetual series of consecutive dreams…)

But, you know… once i’m dead, it’s not “me” anymore. It’s just useless, meaningless, disconnected organic material, set to accelerate through decay and decomposition. It’s just a bunch of particles that no longer serve a purpose, and are no longer required to remain unified in their now-non-existent function.

It’s a bit disconcerting to think of all the crazy things our death industry does to the deceased… but the dead body is not really “us” anymore.
