this question seems too obvious I know..but i am just too curious..
i have been thinking “then what”?? for a very very long time. Every ones gonna die, may be today, tomorrow , 10 years later..IDK.. and when you die, would you like an elaborate funeral, and memorial??
I am a Hindu Brahmin and we have an elaborate funeral rite that extends over an year, plus elaborate commemorative services every year hence forth.
you can read about it here, if you are interested:Â http://in.answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20090820093602AA3uumz
And I wouldn’t care less about whats gonna happens to my “body” once i am gone. I don’t want an “elaborate rite” .. they can just burn “me” and toss away my ashes, feed me to the animals, or even donate my body for research or something..
what about you??
I think, I would just want a celebration. I wouldn’t want a somber affair. I really hate funerals, because they’re so sad. I think death should be a celebration. Regardless of how a person dies, it should be a send off filled with good vibes. I think, I’m leaning more towards cremation, but I don’t have any idea what I would want to do with my ashes. I think it would depend on if I have any loved ones, or, kids.
I can’t remember if it was Dane Cook, or, Nick Swardson… I think, Nick Swardson had a really, really funny joke about what he would want for his funeral. It sounded pretty cool lol
here i think we kind of celebrate death.. or is it just a good deed to do?? IDK.. we throw lavish feats for friends and family every month for one year, and on the death anniversary every year hence forth.. when some one dies, we give away stuff to random people.. everything from land to clothing to gold to cattle.. i think its just a way we say good bye to the dead..
but having a celebration sounds good.. not sure if the loved ones will be able to enjoy it tho..
I don’t really care to be the center of attention so a funeral’s out for me! Also I want the money that would have gone towards a casket and funeral to go towards a wonderful cause, helping animals in need. My body is a dead thing, it does not need a pretty casket to sleep in or a funeral celebration, why not give the money for those resources to living beings in need. And my love for animals will carry on after I am gone by having money donated to them. Also I would like people to remember me by planting trees. I find living trees to be a more beautiful monument than a monument of dead stone.
having a tree planted on your grave sounds nice.. “we” are cremated by default.. but i think i would like being buried with a tree on top of me, just as reminder of some sort, that i am not really gone.. that i will live through the tree that is eating up my dead remains to live..
its almost poetic.. may be when i do die, i would just ask them to do that for me.
i don’t believe in spending lots of money on funeral rite either.. i think the money could just be used elsewhere..
@rach that’s beautiful. I love the idea of having a tree instead of a cement, or, marble grave marker.
@soonerthebetter I think it might be a tad extreme, however, who am I to judge? I think, it’s far better to celebrate instead of mourn the death like we do here in America.
Off topic, but how did you reply within my post?? IF anyone knows, please, do tell. Thanks.
tell me about it..!! i mean no disrespect, but when my uncle died last year, his widow had a difficult time arranging for money to give him a “proper funeral”.. she was too proud to take help from anyone else.. Now she is almost bankrupt and does odd jobs to look after her twins who are hardly 10..
i think the lavish custom is from the time when people were actually “rich”.. we were land lords, and we were considered as one of the nobles.. times have changed.. there are no kings around here.. and surprisingly the “royal bloodline” is amongst the weakest sections of the society.. but people still hold on to outlandish customs and rituals..
I wouldn’t want to burden my loved ones in my death too.. so i think i would just ask em to bury me with a tree planted on top.. nothing lavish..
and about replying inside your post, i go to the dashboard, open the comments on my post, and reply there itself..
i think i could do it because its my post..
do you see a reply / edit option after every comment thats posted??
I doubt that your loved ones really want you to go into debt through some outlandish funeral. But, I understand the whole pride thing and when you are going through grief it’s really a hard thing to go through.
I see a reply button, but not an edit. I am using the reply button now. But, I doubt that will put it within the post… 🙁
i am using the reply button outside the “dashboard” now.. not sure it will come with in the post..
I think you can have ” nested ” comments only when you are the autor of the comment or post.
Not sure tho..
you can give it a try in one of the posts you authored.
I shall try it next time I have something I would like to share… thank you! CH is also my initials lol
@quotetheraven: hahaha thts awesome.. 🙂
No funeral just burn me and scatter the ashes to the winds.
is it just us who feel this way?? I talked to other people, people who seemed “happy” with their lives, they all wanted a proper burial/funeral..!!
i have asked people of all ages, from 16 to 66!!! 18 people outr of 20 wanted to be remembered and given a nice funeral after they have passed away..
@soonerthebetter I think it’s because they want to be remembered and glorified when they go. I don’t want to be remembered. I don’t want to be glorified… I don’t want any trace of my existence even here after I’m gone. If it were up to me I would destroy everything that even hinted I were here. I don’t want people acknowledging I was on earth period. I’ve destroyed my birth certificate and social security card and let my license expire and also threw it away. If I could I would destroy my teeth so that I’m not even identifiable after death. Usually in cases where they can’t identify you they either cremate you or throw you in a paupers grave but I’d prefer the cremation.
i guess … yeah… i don wanna be remembered either… i used to draw lots, take on art projects, i hv started destroying them.. i have almost completed throwing them away.. most of my online accounts are deactivated.. i only keep minimal stuff around me .. i dont want a “reminder” of me hanging around once m gone.. i have sent u can email btw..
