Epidemic??

December 13th, 2016by mysteriousvisitor

We are told there is an epidemic of suicide, and an epidemic of bullying, and an epidemic of mental illness. I see no reason to believe these things are any more prevalent now than say 100 years ago or 500 years ago. Statistics only go back so far, and are subject to error, so even a rise in any one of these things may only demostrate a cyclical pattern that has occured countless times before. And to add to the confusion, mental illness is subjectively defined by clusters of symptoms and these definitions change over time, so how could you even measure an increase or decline in that?
