I know some people are night owls, but that’s not what I am talking about. I am talking about how in my depression the daytime is exhausting…as in within a few hours of waking up I get so tired I HAVE to or want to go back to bed. The daytime just seems to zap me of all energy but come night time it’s different. There isn’t that major issue of trying to stay awake nearly as much, no struggling to keep my eyes open….and I notice my feelings of depression aren’t as heavy on my psyche. I wonder if it’s a brain chemistry or maybe a hormonal type thing…it just seems bizarre that it happens like the flick of a switch. Anyone else experience what I am talking about or have any thoughts?

I’ve always considered it as “the world goes to sleep” at night, quiet, calm, if not almost empty, thus i can come “out of the cave” and be in it, if not apart of it,
conscious or unconscious decision/attraction, when the world “sleeps” i’m more attracted to it, and also mostly the times i actually venture outside
either that or lunar attraction,
i find the stars, the night sky and the the moon breathtakingly beautiful and relaxing, far more than sunrises/sunsets, and especially when there is a light snow falling, just stunning.
spend enough time talking to the moon and when it eventually talks back no wonder you want to stay up at night with your “friend” 😉
or maybe it’s just the cool air at night that is so invigorating, fresh air to breathe life in dead lungs, who knows
it’s only sad that the nights are so short and days are so long
I do like sunsets though! But I think the night is comforting too because maybe like you said, the world sleeps and it is more still and quiet… but you would think that would lull you instead.
I have always enjoyed turning the clocks back and have it pitch dark by 5 pm cause I am a night owl, and it always makes me feel like the night is much longer cause I dread morning.I find it soothing too the night sky and stars and the moon shining…it is beautiful. Especially when there are meteor showers. I enjoyed those as a kid laying in a lawn chair and counting them all with my friend to see who would see the most… it was fun and I still enjoy them just for the simple relaxation. All of it is soothing… maybe I just answered my own question!
meteor showers? you must not live in the city if you can see meteor showers on your lawn lol. i’ve in cities all my life and you can’t see a darn thing unless you drive away from the city, plop yourself down in the middle of nowhere (or at least a city person’s definition of “middle of nowhere”) to see any stars or anything in the sky (other than pollution and fog).
Suburbia _darkness … I grew up in the suburbs and it’s magical …those meteor showers.
Yep ..I hate the daylight hours . I stay up late and try to sleep the day away . The day is draining .
I can’t say I suddenly come alive at a certain hour, but I do much better on a late schedule than early morning. I am definitely more rested and less stressed. There are all these articles saying there is something wrong with this, but I don’t buy that. Any slight different from the accepted norm and we get slapped with some disorder. I like the night!
“Any slight different from the accepted norm and we get slapped with some disorder.”
EXACTLY. Not just with being a night owl, but with everything in life. You’re too sad, there’s something wrong with you. You’re too happy, well there’s something wrong with you too. What?? You’re too emotional, there’s something wrong with you. You’re not emotional enough, there’s something wrong with you.
I seem to be too …maybe I should get a job working graveyard shift!
Yes, night owl here! I come alive at night. If I’m going to keep vampire hours, they ought to give me vampire powers!!
Yes!!! Night time is the best time:)
I feel like a start I mostly feel alive at night cause I can shine while no one is watching
