Yes there has been, at least economically. The post–World War II economic expansion, also known as the postwar economic boom and the Golden Age of Capitalism, was a period of economic prosperity in the mid-20th century which occurred, following the end of World War II in 1945, and lasted until the early 1970s. Since 1978, when corporations became “people” and were allowed to buy our elected officials, America has gone to shit, economically speaking.
If you’re talking about a “golden age” where people were actually DECENT people, no, there has not been a time where that existed in the United States. Since it’s inception, this country has been built on the backs of slaves and from stealing land from the natives and Mexicans.
Agreed. We as a nation had a thirty something years run of good economics related to WW2 but never a run of human decency. Even the good economics we experienced from WW2 cost somewhere between 6 to 15 million casualties.
This American Dream was programmed into us to make us slaves to the system. We have to make this certain amount of salary, have a family with a white picket fence in order to be happy, so we all get into a rat race, competing with each other in order to please our master, and earn this false reward.
Yes, the “American Dream” was invented to make us peons work harder and ever harder, to let us falsely believe that we, too, can grasp the fruit at the top one day, as long as we work hard, follow our masters, don’t complain, and shut up.
That’s the thing- when you see the truth of what’s going on and are saddened by the reality of life, we are labelled as “negative” and “pessimists”- while we are merely being objective and seeing the world for what it is. If the reality is negative, then those pretending the world is an awesome place and we just “need to cheer up” are the ones who are delusional or are in denial.

I have been studying the American “Dream” for sometime. There has never been a golden age for this country.

Because war = profits. Toppling democratic regimes and bombing countries is what we are good at. About the only thing we are “good” at.

“The reason they call it the American Dream is because you have to be asleep to believe it.” -said by the Great George Carlin
Its so hard to have a ‘cheery disposition’ or think of things in any positive way, when you see and understand the truth about the world we live in.
Agreed.
Much agree.

Yep.
It’s not the country that went to hell, it’s the world.
True. It’s the entire human race that’s gone to hell.
Whatever created this planet clearly could not give a shit about humans.
