-You are too happy and positive, and write too many annoying positive things, attack!
-You complain too much about your family who have no obligation to take care of you, get the heck off this site! Attack!
-You write a post about how people shouldn’t post mean comments to purposely hurt others on SP. Attack!
-You complain about your neighbor who is violating the lease by smoking in a designated non-smoking community and you don’t want to cough every day from his smoke? Stop complaining, let the guy smoke, let him make you sick and cough every day. Attack!
-You have a neighbor who bangs their furniture around at midnight then again at 1AM and wake you up? Stop complaining! You’re a drama queen for venting on SP. Attack! Report to Admins!

-You post too many cat videos, and I hate cats! And dogs! Get the heck off this site! Attack!
Wow SP, you make me understand why the general population shuns us. You sharpen your knives and get out your claws. Anybody say anything you don’t like, you attack them. Some people routinely write spiteful and mean comments to purposely and maliciously hurt others, especially posters they don’t like, and you wonder why normal people don’t want anything to do with you.
RANTS
There is an entire category dedicated to rants. People rant here because it helps them get it off their chest. If you don’t want to read it, skip it.
FUN & INTERESTING / POETRY & ART
There is an entire category dedicated to Fun and Interesting.
As well as another category dedicated to Poetry and Art.
These may not be 100% related to depression and suicide, but there is nothing wrong with someone posting something about something fun and interesting, or about poetry and art, especially if it helps make them feel better, and especially if it also helps other members.
There was a time where people literally complained about people writing poems on this site. Like, seriously. There was a time where there were people who posted poems, many were young teens, and that’s how they expressed themselves. Poems about their pain, of being misunderstood. Writing the poems made them feel better. So what did people do? Jump down their throats for writing poems of course! So what happened? The poor kids stopped writing poems. Not only did they already feel bad enough about their life, now they get bashed for posting something as innocuous as poems. Great job, you made the kids feel even worse and more depressed. Maybe one of them did kill themselves because they didn’t have anywhere to talk or go to to express themselves without people hating on them. Did that make you happy?
There was a time where people posted beautiful pictures and artwork, but people jumped down their throats too, and are too afraid to post any more.
SCROLL DOWN
Yes, some people post cat videos, poems, or whatever else. If something helps other people and brighten their day, be it a silly cat video or a photo or whatever else, what’s wrong with that? If you don’t like it, you know you can just scroll down right? OMG, that is so hard to do. I just can’t do it. If I see anything that I don’t like, I’m literally forced to write something mean and nasty. I’mma jump down their throat cuz that makes me feel better.
Scrolling past posts not relevant or interesting to you, so hard. Scrolling past posts by posters you dislike, so hard. Ignoring the itch to not write mean comments to posters you don’t like who’ve done nothing to you, so so hard.
There are plenty of posts I don’t care for. There are plenty of posts by teens about school or school stuff or teen stuff that isn’t relevant to me. What do I do? I scroll past it. So hard, I know.
If there is a post you don’t like, you’re not obligated to read the post. No one is gluing your eyeballs to the computer screen and forcing you to read every post. If you don’t like poems, don’t read it. If you don’t like silly cat videos, don’t watch it. If you don’t want to read other people’s rants, don’t read it. And if you don’t like particular posters, skip their posts. No one is forcing you to read their posts. And certainly no one is compelling you to write mean comments. You do it because you want to.
Is there something wrong with being civil and nice and not hateful here on SP? Isn’t this supposed to be a place where people can say things and NOT get judged on like you do in the real world? It’s funny how the same people who complain about people being judgemental in the real world are the most judgemental and mean themselves.
PRACTICE BEING NICE
Try being nice. Maybe the world will be a better place, both online here and in the real world.

I dunno man. Being nice has literally gotten me nowhere in this life. Just bending over and taking it.
Ok, how about just on SP?
I suppose so.
Exactly *applause*
Thanks for writing this. I have a lot to say about this issue also, but like “they” say, if you don’t have anything good to say. . .
Humans are humans, and as long as we exist, no matter who we are or what our circumstances are, we will always feel entitled to behave like asses. It’s the simplest thing in the world (IN THEORY ) to just ignore something you dislike, but the most difficult thing to put into practice, for so many reasons, and before I get going, I need to just shut up.
But what about people who are suicidal because everyone is so nice to them all the time? I feel bad for those people. They have a heavy burden to bear. I wish I could make them some french-press coffee and give them a big hug, but that would be mean.
I pity these people. Sniff.
Thank you for writing this, so full of truth. The part about the poems really hit me in my soft spot because I remember a time when this site was littered with poetry and links to songs and I’d always try to say something constructive. I’ve been on and off this site for years and coming back today, I’ve never seen so many people gatekeeping and trying to tell others what to do and how to feel. The people trying to keep this place as their own private club are the ones ruining this website. This place is for people in pain, and like you said, if their pain isn’t compatible with yours, scroll down! ( or go open a subreddit if you wanna police everyones thoughts). Again, thank you for writing this. I was really irked by some of the posts I’ve been reading but this one has settled my mind
People have posted music links and I am thankful for that. Many songs in my biggest playlist came from here. Some of the poetry here has shown great insight.
Right, music, videos, links, poetry, witty haikus, etc.
That was once upon a time. Then the haters came along and yelled at them for posting their “stupid and childish poems.” They were ridiculed and bashed and so they no longer posted their poems. Why not simply ignore the posts you don’t like instead of attacking these poor kids and making them feel bad? “Oh but we have a right to say whatever hateful and mean things we want” they say. Yeah, but you’re being jerks.
My computer has numerous ways to scroll, so yeah. But really, the triggers that drive people to such distress are incredibly numerous. I have been out of public school over forty years yet I remember vividly my first grade teacher was a first class nutjob. That is right, first grade!!
So when I see teens posting school teacher issues I get that. Bullies where the bane of my existence for half of my public school years too.
Thankfully most folks around here are kind most of the time. But when it gets out of hand around here, that [!]Report this post link can be used for some of the not so appropriate comments too.
