Every time I hear a stupid top 40 song on the radio about “just be yourself” it makes me want to hang myself.
If “just be yourself” were true, women wouldn’t wear a scrape of makeup. Men wouldn’t shave, bathe or bother to work off that beer gut. Everyone would drive a crappy dented car and live in a house that hasn’t had a fresh coat of paint in 50 years. Everyone would have bad breath. No one would say ‘please’ or ‘thank you’ and everyone would be rude, tactless, racist A*holes sitting around in their underwear jerking off to porn.
And yet, “just be yourself” is one of the most popular, celebrated and lucrative slogans ever uttered by any fancy-dressed, surgically-enhanced, photoshopped, auto-tuned pop singer out there.
To hell with “just be yourself.” How about we get real and say “just KILL yourself.”

Nobody cares if you are ‘just being yourself’. They only care about what you have to offer them….
…like as is we really know who or what our authentic selves even are.
So true. That saying is bullshit. One of my favorite sayings that sheds light on just how bullshit it is:
“Just be yourself… No, not like that.”
People want to hire, date, marry, and be friends with people who are pretty much exactly like them and pretty much just like everyone else.
If you don’t fit a certain image and act a certain way.. Forget about ever fitting in. (Unless you’re really lucky)
Or just be an individual, like everyone else.
That whole just be yourself thing annoyed me too. Your last sentence was how I thought for over 30 years.

Well I would like to kill myself but nothing ever comes easy…. no matter to me if another homosapien chooses to end their fruitless existence. I guess ‘being yourself’ is the cheap thrill they are selling so you can waste more of your insubstantial lives.
That’s not true. I mean, the part about not shaving, driving a dented car, and not working out is definitely true, but not everybody is a racist or has a libido. I mean, c’mon.
