…and think to themselves that if you end up committing suicide and then being born as one of the poor animals that are being abused and tortured half of their lives then brutally killed, you’re actually ending up worse off than if you continued living? I can’t get this out of my head… I wish there was a guarantee that we don’t come back to this messed up world.

I know I can’t prove or disprove the concept but will say I do not believe it. Whatever you believe or disbelieve, there is a certain amount of faith involved. Some, including myself, found reincarnation to be a terrifying concept. But like another somewhat popular death by suicide terrifying religious concept out there that somehow seemed possibly true, I spent quite a few brain cells and time processing that belief and finding I just could not believe it to be so.
Something that haunts me is the “Matter cannot be created or destroyed”
@calico Bingo. Matter, energy, momentum, force, heat, the list is infinite. If science has taught us one fundamental truth it’s that nothing “vanishes”. Everything is transferred or transformed. With that solid law in place, I don’t see any way of NOT believing in “reincarnation” or some sort of consciousness transfer. Of course memory would be gone, the same way head trauma victims lose memories, but consciousness is not defined by brain cells. No one has ever defined consciousness, so we have to assume it behaves like every other quantity in the universe. It’s going to be a long ride, so get used to pain.
Is the “long ride, so get used to pain” for me?
Haha, or was that just a “in general” thing?
Then all I hope is that what we are feeling here is purely a matter of brain cells and nothing to do with anything “spiritual” which will carry on. It’s actually quite haunting
As long as memories of previous lives remain behind, it wouldn’t much matter to me if I reincarnated. It would simply be a repetition of the same process I am currently enduring – learning. I have no conscious memories of anything before this life, so hey, who knows. . .
As far as belief goes, I don’t believe this life is the end, but would prefer if it is. As for what might be next, I have absolutely no idea.
As Humans we can end our lives whenever we wish. The poor animals who are being abused are not able to do so. Contact your State Rep. and tell them that the animal abuse laws do not go far enough.
Actually all the animal abuse and destruction of this planet is partially why I want out of this world so badly. I think we are all doomed and everyone who is turning a blind eye to it (probably >90% of population) makes me sick.. and the realisation that being vegan, supporting charities and contacting state reps will not get us far unless more people get on board makes me very hopeless as well..
