What is the purpose of “protected posts?”

by Once

I’m ignorant and curious. I’ve seen protected posts here for years, usually by the same post-er, and am clueless to what the purpose is. I see that a password is required.

Can anyone fill me in on what this is? I’m just curious.

Thanks!

its so you can post but only people that know the password can read it. so its private but others can still see if you wish them to.

Oh. That explains why my password does nothing. The post isn’t intended for me. I thought it was only to keep non-registered readers from reading it.

I’m glad you asked. I initially thought it was a phishing attempt to get you to enter your password and then they could hack your accounts.
(I’m not paranoid at all. lol)

I wouldn’t be so paranoid if there weren’t so many people after me…. 😉

I’ve turned most of my old post that once was public into password protected post since I felt they were irrelevant to anyone viewing them now, but didn’t feel the need to delete them yet since they’ve become kind of an online journal I could come back to and reflect back on, as well as members I’ve met back then.
