Curious to know what suicidal people watch to feel better, or at least distract themselves
I usually like to watch heavy stuff that forces you to think without getting too depressing, like 2001 A Space Odyssey or on the lighter side, Being John Malkovich
Can’t stand romcoms, you can probably guess why [spoiler alert: alone & miserable]
what do you guys like to watch when you’re having one of those days?

studio ghibli movies always make me feel better. I think it’s the element of escapism, y’know, with all the fantasy and magical realism themes. plus, I love the animation style.
God on Trial. The despair is palpable and feeds my own. Plus it reaffirms my belief that the “god” humans feel the need to worship is really just a big prick.
i never watch things i like to read but not about happiness about others sadness
@disciple Studio ghibli did Spirited Away right? That’s been on my watch list for a while.
@Once I just looked up the description for God on Trial. Sounds intense and right up my alley. I hope they find god guilty and fry the fvcker
@zombiekiss Yeah reading is probably a lot healthier but I can’t make it more than 20 pages before my brain switches back to my own obsessive misery. I guess I’m the mental equivalent of a toddler, I need sounds and flashy visuals to distract me.
yes, you should definitely watch Spirited away. I’d say it’s probably their best movie yet.
I definitely support God on Trial, hard to do better than that, but;
Ishtar – a story about a pair of washed up musicians that get caught up in politics in North Africa, dark comedy of high quality
Max – another WW2 movie, about a Jewish art dealer who tries to steer a young Hitler towards art instead of politics. Ends tragically, of course, but satisfying
Oliver! (1968), Victorian London grim but uplifting musical, orphan tries to make his way in the world.
I like horror, but not any one movie good enough to suggest. Books though, got tons of those, recommend “The Worm and His Kings” by Hailey Piper and House of Skin, by Tim Curran,
after more thought, I recommend the Saw movies 1-5, after that it gets a bit overly convoluted. John Dies at the End always makes me laugh. Oh! The Lumberjack Man is wonderfully cheesy, if you are into that sort of thing.
Cool, 2 votes for God on Trial, I’ll definitely look for it this weekend.
Also thanks for reminding me, yeah dark comedy hits the spot. I haven’t seen John Dies at the End but I loved the Phantasm movies (same director I think?) because the later ones definitely cross over into dark comedy with Reggie ice cream man zombie killer packing a 4 barrel shotgun.
