ever notice how every other disease has decreased over the centuries whether due to cures, technology, prevention or education? name any disease, polio, smallpox, bubonic plague, cholera, consumption, and eventually the numbers go down. But not suicide. despite all the billions of $$ that have been sunk into suicide prevention, awareness, pharmaceuticals, antidepressants, therapy, the numbers keep going up.
isnt it clear by now? nothing helps. maybe its because there’s nothing “wrong” with suicidal people. And you can’t fix a healthy person.
Oh but they’ll keep trying. as long as $$ keeps pouring in they’ll keep putting on a good show of trying. and covering their asses. notice how all the antidepressants come with the legal disclaimer “may increase thoughts of suicide”
imagine if penicillin had the disclaimer “may increase infection” or aspirin “may increase headaches” or water “may increase dehydration”

suicide isn’t going away. Not for the world and definitely not for me

Turbulence does that. Unhappiness is the norm. But maybe there’s an upside to it too. Humans undoubtedly like being in control, and development tends to lead to higher govt. control. Maybe that applies to individuals too. Maybe all the numbers are saying is more people are taking control of their lives and choices.
that’s a great way to look at it. If we strip away the bs about “suicide is evil” then we’re left with what you said: people making choices. Maybe the rising numbers are not indicative of a rising problem so much as problem that has always existed (pain) but with more people choosing to do something about it.
It reminds me of the way divorce rates are sometimes cited as a social problem, but divorce isn’t the problem, it’s the solution to bad marriage.
I think a big issue is that money is being funneled into programs that aim to keep people content being workers with low wages and no benefits.
