I think it’s just the world not knowing what to do with us. First they said I had a learning disability, then an issue with authority, then depression, it’s one after another, and from what I can tell my symptoms haven’t changed. What have changed is which drugs they want to give me to “correct” me.
I’ve had a non depressed time period here and there in the last 20 years of interacting with the mental health system. The longest was probably about two years. This was the year I finally started thinking that I’m not the problem.
The catch of the whole thing is that the people doing the diagnostics are as biased as anyone else, but they THINK their training is effective at canceling out their bias. Psychology as it stands today is no more a science than it has ever been. It’s religion for people lacking faith. It sets out to correct the very conditions it depends on.
Go look up phrenology, the Stanford Prison Experiment, Milgram Experiment, MKultra, or how psychology was used as a basis to perform torture, lobotomies , and destroy people. Worse still, the story that has yet to be written; in the 1970s a bunch of psychologists decided to take their information and sell it to political think tanks.
So this wonderful world of new terrors and lack of human rights? All furnished courtesy of the men and women CLAIMING to help us. Look, I’m not a scientologist, because I’m still marginally sane, but I’ve spent my life in this bunko science on both sides as a lab rat and interpreting data. There is no such thing as medical ethics anymore, just what people can get away with, and what they can’t.

It’s always refreshing to see some hope in this place. Depression is not forever. I was depressed for six years, and I beat it.
That’s good to know!
I’m still going on for 8 years, still hasn’t gone away.
