I care about you guys. So, Ive come back to share whats working for me, in hopes that just maybe it will help one of you too.
A while ago I came to the conclusion that, as suicidal as I may have felt, I probably wasnt ever going to kill myself. I couldnt. And it was for the same reason I couldnt build a happy life for myself: I didnt have enough self-discipline. I was really good at making plans in my head, and really bad at actually doing what it takes to make those plans a reality. The thought “Im gonna kill myself” had the same outcome as the thought “Im going to make the best life for myself ever”, because no matter what I thought, I wasnt taking action. No real effort was being put into ending my life, and no real effort was put into building my life up. Either way, there wasnt enough work being done.
So, in the face of this epiphany, I decided that I needed to increase my levels of Self-discipline. Im doing this by utilizing what are called Keystone Habits (Good Habits that are so beneficial when adapted that they inspire the formation of yet more good habits). There are plenty of Keystone habits to choose from, but I focused on just two of them to start out with: Exercize & Gratitude. Eventually, I also added listening to Positive Affirmations. At first affirmations just seems like silly brainwashing, but when you think about it, we brainwash & Distract ourselves every day anyway with TV, Music, Video games, etc. I figured that Id rather put more good things in my mind than bad things, so I do the affirmations now too.
Besides all this, I consistently listened to Audiobooks about developing better Self-discipline too, and applied the knowledge I gained from them.
And you know what? After just a week or so, I actually do feel better about myself and about where my life is heading.
So yeah! This is what is working for me. Just maybe it will help one of you too. But it will only work if you truly work for it, only if you really want it. Its not enough to think, not enough to speak, you have to do. Doing is what gets you there.
I might pop in every once in a while to say stuff like this, but it wont be often.
