and of course where my brain immediately goes is to Bill & Ted quoting that song to Socrates.
Another good song examining this condition is Life’ll Kill Ya by Warren Zevon, who observed;
“Life’ll kill ya,
that’s what I said,
Life’ll kill ya,
then you’ll be dead
Life’ll find ya
Wherever you go
Requiescat in pace
That’s all she wrote”
I will also say that “life is short” does not align with my experience of it. Life is long, so much so that I can’t even wrap my head around what I might do in the time I have left, the remaining 2/3rds of my life.
Great song, maybe the first time a popular radio hit made it to the top with such a dark nihilistic philosophy. Not even a hint of “but hold on everything’s gonna be ok!” which the masses demand of their pop songs.
I guess it’s up to the listener to put a positive spin as you’re doing, focusing on what you’d like to do before you die. I’m sure the song purposely leaves that interpretation open. Me in my hopeless state though, even those things are meaningless to me now. “All my dreams pass before my eyes, a curiosity”
In my dark world the line “Don’t hang on” is talking about hanging on to life. Fucking hell I’m sorry about being such a downer… Either way, great song

Your old apartment burned down? Where do you live now?
Same complex, different building. They happened to have a lot of vacancies and moved a lot of people into them. Not everyone, but us, at least.
