Why do we choose not to feel great about it? Recently I was introduced to an interesting re interpretation of my personal take on existententialist absurdism, Camus; Myth of Sysyphus as the most apt metaphor for the meaningless insanity of our world.
It goes a step further than most interpretations do such as to say that Camus challenges the very concept of values and institutions themselves. The complete absurd holds nothing sacred, has no reverance. Mere existentialism only flirts with flaunting values and institutions. So most absurdists find some lower more sane value system, because total absurdism would be anarchy.
Long philosophic road walked to arrive at we can’t be happy because the chains themselves impart some value, as in the illustrive case of values and institutions.
Perfection illudes because work to be done satisfies a basic human need. A person without a task to perform is miserable. We could have been post scarcity decades ago, but we can’t figure it out economically. We could at the very least feed and house every person on the planet, but we don’t, because of complex sociological and political reasons that boil down to that humans are selfish and tribal. We can’t seem to focus on how what hurts someone else hurts us too.
