I wake up
to find you dead

It has been almost a year…

Since I lost the man I love.

Since he gave up.

Since my daughter lost the father she never got a chance to meet.

Â Since he shot himself.

I wasÂ six months pregnant with his only child.

She is perfect.

She looks just like him.

But he won’t ever know that.

He is gone.

He has been gone forÂ nine months andÂ twenty-nine days.

It feels like it has been centuries.

Relapse is such a *****. Things were going so well for me. Why did I visit my old box? What did i expect to feel when i picked up my old blades? Repulsion? Disgust? Haven’t I done this before? Shouldn’t the shaking hands and bone aches and sniffly nose have stopped by now? I mean it’s been, what, seven months now? Isn’t that enough? Jesus. Sobriety isn’t worth it if this is what it comes with. I thought physical withdrawals were supposed to stop after a couple months. What just happened?

Everything was going so well. It’s already seven p.m. and I haven’t felt suicidal all day. For me, that is a hugeÂ accomplishment. I spent the day with real smiles on my face. I felt like I was alive again. I thought “maybe everything will be all right now.”

I wasÂ wrongÂ of course, I’m not all right.

No one understands

Soon it will be seven months since the love of my life passed away. No one understands what it’s like to have to go through life without him. I feel completely lost and have wanted to give up so many times but I can’t because losing him gave me my faith in God and the fear of not being able to go to heaven and be with him again is too great to actually end it all.
