We’re here because we evolved from chimp like ancestors hundreds of thousands of years ago, and they were smart so they prospered. Life has no intrinsic sense of meaning, direction or purpose and there is no lofty creator god sitting up in heaven looking sternly down on us. In fact life doesn’t need a god, it gets along just fine without him. I sometimes think it would have been better for life and our planet if we’d never evolved at all or if we had that we’d stayed as primitive, nomadic hunter gatherers roaming about the wilderness having minimal impact on the natural environment. Alas…
Some of us never find a meaningful existence, so we tend to drift through life never feeling a sense of connection with others, a goal to work towards or a cause to fight for and that can affect our sense of well being. As a secularist I believe that we have to create our own sense of meaning in life, to find a niche in which we feel we truly belong. But for those who can’t do that well that’s more a reflection on us, our history or our genes. If you will take me instance. I was so fucked up by my past that I find I’m unable function in this society so I find myself living on the margins feeling eternally adrift, alienated and useless. But them’s the breaks, no one ever said life was fair. Peace.
To live and see the world, to love, to have family, to smile, to cry, to ache, to laugh. We live because we want something more in life. Suicide is like giving up a lifetime of gifts (yes chistmas included) You don’t know what is in the box but you dont allow yourself a chance to see. You are someones love, someones inspiration, someone’s hope and dream. You just dont know it yet.
