havent been here in a while.. so lately ive been so tired, but ive been oversleeping. getting hours and hours of sleep and im still extremley tired. Could this have anything to do with my being depressed?
Probably not. If you sleep too much you get and feel more tired. And yes. It’s possible to sleep too much. Sleeping too much can Cause depression, but it doesn’t really make it worse. Most of the time.
YES. That’s one of the main symptoms. I don’t know whether people can develop it later in life. For me, I first began to experience it at school. It was the tiredness I complained about most of all. I had every test for all sorts of things like iron deficiency but they never showed anything.
i don’t know if I would rule it out. I’ve been surprised to find (in my life) how symbiotic our systems are. everything seems to affect everything else. i’ve been battling depression and sleep problems for 30 years. I don’t really know which came first, but they seem to feed off of each other.
Hmm.. thanks. im just trying to figure this out. Like Im getting so many hours of sleep. I fell asleep at about seven last night, and woke up now at eleven am. and i could still sleep.. thanks.
Yes Isaac thats what I’m going through, exactly how you describe it. After so long it constrains your personality and feels like there permanent damage being caused to whatever underneath. I reckon there was about a year from the age of 15 when I was operating at my best but even then I was so young I can’t remember what it was like. There has always been something wrong but that’s when the longer bouts started.
The SSRI’s will make you more alert but if it’s chronic fatigue syndrome all they will do is mask the problem. You will feel better but still not quite how you should.
As the others have said, there is a relation between sleep and depression, but you should also know that more sleep is not necessarily better. In fact if you oversleep you’re more likely to feel more tierd when you wake up then if you were to sleep for the proper amount of time. I’ve read that when you sleep for more then 8 hours your body “resets” and believs that it needs another 8 hours of sleep which is why you wake up more tierd. Of course it varies from person to person, but i think 7-9 hours is best.
Perhaps your bed is too comfortable? I know it sounds really dumb, but it’s possible. The bed I used to have was really comfortable to the point where I would sleep literally 24 hrs. at a time. I got a new bed towards the end of last school year, and now my issue of always being tired and falling asleep is pretty much gone. Apparently you are only supposed to have a bed for about 7 years before you replace it because it starts to fall apart or perhaps get too comfortable. I had mine for like 10+. Now the only reason I’m tired is because I stay up til 1 and get 5 hrs of sleep, and I have to dancing roles in the play for Drama Club. lol. So I recommend getting a new bed. And not staying up super late like I do. And drink water and eat real food. 😀
The SSRI’s can produce the spark and even after you discontinue them they can set you on the right track. You don’t need to stay on them forever. If when you discontinue them you fall into a hole then you will know for sure that there is a lasting problem. Even I revert back to them occasionally when other medications have an adverse effect. I think medication should be a last resort but they can help. Tiredness is a sign along with anxiety in people that have an underlying problem. My doctor disagrees with me on some things because he sees more patients and has experience but I tend to think people are too quick to reach for the medication. They would do just as well on placebo.
meds have helped my sleep. i’m trying to get off of them and my sleep is suffering, but more to the point, combination of a couple of different ones have made me sleep better than I have since I was a child. not recommending…just sayin’ (meds are a mixed bag)
Anything can be a symptom of anything…
Oversleeping can be due to depression. But I have a fiend right now with that prob, and she’s not depressed. She’s trying to get a diagnosis fr narcolepsy but it doesn’t it the bill. It’s a tedious process. She’s going to sleep therapy so they can monitor her brain waves and work out whats going on. If its serious enough to interfere with your life in a major way I recomend seeing a doctor about it because it could be a long referral process
As far as symptoms for major depression I would rate tiredness as the main one followed by anxiety, concentration and memory. Surprisingly feeling suicidal is not the main factor unless you are one of the few that have it very severe.

Well I dont know why I’m over sleeping.. its bothering me, and Id like to have a life too, instead of always passing out on people.
