A friend of mine came across and posted this response from Gene Simmons’ website regarding his thoughts about God and religion and being that he studied theology as he grew up, I found this rather interesting…
Usually, my notions about God (if there is one, I might add) are private. I RESENT anyone telling me or anyone else publicly how much their God means to them and how much it is the only God. I find it vile and…primitive. It’s back to the inquisition (look it up on the internet).
But since you asked:
If there is a God, and I am open to the possibility there is not, then I believe God had put all the animals in the garden, and let them do as they please. I do not believe in predestination. I do not believe in hell. I do not believe, necessarily in heaven…although, I’ll grant you, I really hope there is one.Hell exists right here on earth. And, we don’t need a Devil. They don’t make em any worse than human beings. My grandparents on both sides of the family, and most of my Mother’s family, including my Mother, were in the concentration camps of Nazi Germany. Hell exists right here on earth. Here’s a scary fact: More human beings have been killed in the name of God, than all the wars, famines and diseases put together. Whether they’re Crusades in the name of Jesus, or Jihad’s in the name of Allah—once you utter that your cause is blessed by your God, all hell breaks loose. My notion of heaven is simple:Whether human beings believe in God or not, whether they are straight or gay, whether they are Jew or Muslim… Your DEEDS will determine everything. What you BELIEVE means nothing. Not unless God has an EGO and INSISTS ON YOU BELIEVING AND PRAYING TO HIM BEFORE HE LETS YOU INTO HEAVEN.And I don’t believe that God has an ego. Only we silly human beings suffer from such foibles. And, God, we are taught, has no human foibles. Therefore, God doesn’t really need churches, or his name uttered. God, like any parent, would only be concerned about his children behaving. Period.

Dawg,
good post
hahah sorry my computer is dumb and wrote the wrong comment on the wrong post… but i read this and its interesting… i myself am not religious but spirtitual. although i agree you do have to earn anything you want sometimes i feel like theres a greater being that allows you to have the strength and opportunities to do so. just a thought.
We all find strength in different things and through different means – inspirations – but only mortal and real circumstances outside of our control have any effect on our capacity and ability to explore opportunities – our belief in god or spirituality may motivate us to take one path over another but it does not force us to make or reject the choice – it only influences our decision – and in that influence – it’s still our choice to let the outside force have influence over our decision. example:
The bible says “Thou shalt not kill”
man’s law says murder has serious negative consequences (prison/death)
i choose not to kill not for those reasons – but because i don’t want to be responsible for causing someone – either the intended victim or his/her friends and family – pain and suffering. i don’t need nor do i rely on those outside influences to make my decision – that decision to live and let live is wholly created within me.
Similar logic can be applied to everything in our lives – we just have to chose the directions we want to go to attain the desired outcome … some times it will work and others it may fail – but it all comes back to an internal choice and desire … our determination dictates how hard we try – and failure is just a way of saying that a specific method or process does not work – bu if we desire something strongly enough we will find a new and different way to get to our objective … like getting off a highway exit to avoid a traffic jam – if the road is blocked, we take an alternate route
