Tomorrow I have my first therapy session… to be honest I am nervous, but really excited. I’m determined to go in there knowing what I want to accomplish and making it happen. I really hope the excitement I’m feeling about getting help is something that one day everyone can feel as well.. I want to be happier and healthier. I will make this change.

Good for you! I hope it goes well. You have a great attitude. I was scared but excited at first too. It takes time though — I’m still a mess, but I do look forward to my sessions, I sooo wish my therapist was my mom :\
If for some reason you don’t click with the therapist don’t be afraid to try a different one, though. Sometimes it takes time to find the right one.
Wow, that’s great! What made you decide to get help? Or should I say, what gave you the strength? I want to, but I don’t know if I can.
@kissnm10 I’m not really sure. I think it was a combination of so many people (esp those I looked up to) saying I really needed the help. The night before I said something I looked down and saw 35 self-inflicted wounds and knew this was a problem. No matter what anyone says, one day you will just do it. U will realize you need it. It took me 4 years, but I finally realized it. I won’t lie, I’m so nervous, but I have to keep reading everyone’s comments and texts and realize it’s best. I really hope you get help (:
I ditto everything SadBk said. It takes time, and if you don’t click with this therapist, find another. Some are much better than others. It’s hard work, but the best hard work you will ever do in your life for your future.
Kudos to you! This took courage and shows you care about you, a good thing.
SadBk is right: not all therapy is equal. I’ve had good therapists and bad therapists. If you feel like you’re not benefiting or that you don’t click well with your therapist, simply try another one. Give it some time though and make sure you’re not just feeling the jitters. Trust takes time to build for most people and the heart of therapy is trusting your therapist.
you made a great decision.. congrats.. and as has been said above. if you don’t click with the therapist.. keep looking. there are good and bad onces out there. keep in mind most are in the buisness becaues they themselves are looking for their own answers. some are more compassionate than others. all the best to you..
