“What came first – the music or the misery? Did I listen to the music because I was miserable? Or was I miserable because I listened to the music? Do all those records turn you into a melancholy person?â€
― Nick Hornby, High Fidelity
“I’ve committed to nothing…and that’s just suicide…by tiny, tiny increments.â€
― Nick Hornby, High Fidelity
Sometimes I get a strange satisfaction listing to a sad song, I think maybe because in the moment I’m allowing myself to experience my sadness as it is for what it is, and feeling it, without judging it feels good. Bitter sweet but at least real.
Anything can be a trigger. The trigger is not to blame for what awaits in the chamber, nor for where or why the barrel aims. Likewise, we can’t blame the hand for reaching to grasp its only conceivable means of release.
