Broken Promises

Why is it that most times, it’s the people that are nearest to you that hurt you the most? Sometimes, she wonders why he had to pick her. At the tender age of 12, her world came crushing down around her. That was when she found out that people aren’t always what they seemed to be. He was suppose to protect her, to be her shield, to be her hero. But instead, he left her broken, bent, an empty shell of what once used to be a vibrant young child. Life is cruel sometimes, and sometimes, the cry for help is drowned out by people who are more worried about reputation and social standing. She found out the hard way that if you can’t believe in the one person that’s supposed to be there for you, then forget about the rest of the world.

Those words uttered to that 12 year old child “I’m sorry, I promise I will never do that again!” were repeated over and over again for the next 5 years. It’s true what they say – promises are meant to be broken, no matter who made them to begin with…
