Well….because pictures of cutting don’t give you specific ways to kill yourself. Although I think pictures of cutting should be prohibited because they can be triggers for people to self harm and besides…. they just look gross….sometimes I eat while I’m on SP and those images can ruin appetites. I mean nobody really needs proof that people are cutting.
Couldn’t agree more on photos of cuts/bleeding … they give me the willies. and yes – specifics on methods has been prohibited for about a year or so, not that it was ever widely accepted … not sure i completely agree with that rule but it is what it is.

While i tend to agree with the anti-graphic-images sentiment, i don’t necessarily think it should be censored. It is fully within my capabilities to simply close the browser, or view some other page, should i find something offensive or disturbing here.
However, perhaps some sort of plugin or WP mod could be arranged, like automatic spoiler tags for images, or having a default setting that puts images below the “preview” cutoff, so that the front page doesn’t get plastered with potentially disturbing images by users who don’t see anything wrong with posting objectionable content. Maybe all images should be visible only inside the post, but not on the front page? Just an idea, not demanding anything.
