The subject was me and my tough time with life. He said that I’m being too hard and critical of myself. It’s very hard not to be critical of yourself when it’s your own actions which causes all the problems. How can someone who has failed in many aspects of life actually suppose to not be critical? How can they just ignore it?
You could say that you must notice and not be emotionally negative about it, but it’s my impulses and way of thinking that had made me into something I hate, it causes a negative perspective. it’s only human nature i think

Human nature is making mistakes and learning from them. It doesn’t necessarily mean you won’t make the same mistake again but there are other ways to grow from it. I know it’s tough to prepare for the worst but still be optimistic. Try to get out and live, act more on impulses and you may feel more fulfilled to the point that not everything seems negative.
For me, learning from my mistakes have made me say less things or do less because I have learned that what I say and do are no good and lead to negative consequences.
I agree with the above post. Plus, there’s a difference between being hard on yourself and punishing yourself. The idea is learning from your mistakes, not pushing yourself because of them. Everyone makes mistakes, and even the most carefully thought out plans have flaws.
I don’t really punish myself by doing something that’s bad for me but my thoughts can be kind of punishments.
It’s so hard to control though when a thought can happen with your mind just doing it out of habit when your not paying attention
Sometimes thoughts are worst than physical punishment, and you’re right, it’s pretty hard to control thoughts, but managing them and dealing with them is actually doable. Takes time, lots of effort and acceptance, but… yup, not impossible.
One thing that i do have to add is that (might be wrong here) imho, learning from your mistakes means you actually get something useful out of them, and telling to yourself to stop trying because you’re going to fail each time is actually a lot different than that. It’s pretty unlikely that a well thought-out action can lead to negative results 100% of the time (possible? yes, but highly unlikely), unlike you’re doing the exact same thing, or you’re pursuing the same impossible thing over and over again.
