I’m apologising because I don’t want to offend anyone I no some people ain’t religious and so on can get into debits and a whole other load of shit ๐
I’m not that religious, but my interpretation would be that God’s message is that he’s there, but you have to seek him out. He won’t just bail you out of anything, but if you immerse yourself in his message and in prayer, that will yield the peace of mind and wisdom you need to live.
As pretty much an atheist, one of the things I really admire about Christianity is how it does not shy away from life’s hardships. I sort of think a lot of the religion could be summed up as: “life is a b*tch, deal with it”.
Do take care. Love yourself. Do kind deeds for yourself. Spare a thought for yourself. And kind words.
I know the feeling, but I realised recently that hating myself doesn’t really bring anything good with it. At least, that is what I think. I guess I’ll try to practise being kind to others by being kind to myself.
Sure, you don’t even need to think positive, just, you know, be kind to yourself. Maybe massage yourself (no, not like THAT…). Or listen to some soothing music. Or eat some nice food. Or go for a stroll. Tell yourself nice thing. Comfort yourself. Call someone you really like.
Good question… it reminds me of a quote from Epicurus:
“Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent.
Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent.
Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil?
Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?”
Ask your question to a person of faith and your likely response will be summed up to “free will” and “human weakness.”. Both being, in my opinion, incorrect. Self-harm is a coping mechanism and exercised by many living sentient beings. Self-harming is (unfortunately) common and at the same time not well understood. Oddly enough, your actions are very “natural”… healthy? No… but you already knew that. Natural… yes.
I read somewhere where elastics around one’s wrist can help ease the urge when snapped… just a thought.
I suppose one loophole there could be that he IS willing and able, but is waiting for a future time to implement the changes.
He could be temporarily allowing evil, just so we can see what a rotten job humans do when we try to take care of the planet (and other people) on our own.
If there is a โgodโ I donโt think a loving god would allow evil, even if temporary evil.
A loving parent would never allow evil to be inflicted on their child.
Allowing evil doesnโt equate with unconditional love.
StayOrGo, I think you answered it. The idea of a loving god (or an angry god or any sort of emotional god) is purely a human, religious invention which is why I don’t follow any human religion. I do believe in a governing force of nature that people might call “god” but it is as emotionless as a tree. Like a tree, it gives us shade, shelter, air and fruits to eat. But it’s not going to stop us from slicing our necks open with a blade. That is our choice, our opportunity.

God doesn’t feel the physical state

I’m an atheist, but religion teaches that God gave us free will so the evil can bring out the good.
How would you recognize pleasure without knowing pain?
How could you embrace joy without experiencing despair?
How could you find light having never been in the dark?
