I’m not sure age has got anything to do with it. In fact I’d imagine most of us “old ones” have had a few more decades of shit to deal with. I’m 44, hopefully won’t see 45. My b/day’s in the summer, but I Won’t be here for it with any luck.
I’m 31 and I’ve been suicidal since I was 17. I tried when I was 24 but failed cause my then husband forced the pills back up cause I was covered in bruises and he didn’t want anyone to know his dirty little secret.
No. Older people are less likely to find SP. Older people fail less at suicide.
Will it get better? No idea. The older you get without serious help the more likely it will be a long term thing… maybe.
I’ve known people that have kicked it. I sure haven’t, but at least I’m in a place where I’m determined to delay being crushed by my own fears as long as possible. This is the only game in town, after all.
I don’t think this is actually true. I think if you google you’ll find that older people usually tend to hit the bullseye a lot more than younger people.
I tend to talk a lot with people I identify with, many happen to be similar in age, for those who mention their age. You may be reading and interacting with people in a specific age range more right now. I’m 35. Older people with a long history of depression may be fewer in number though. Eventually people cope better and live longer, or die.
53 here, and depression has been my lifelong companion. I’ve been dealing with it for 20 years, have learned some coping techniques, but I know it’ll follow me into my urn. (Cremation for me, thank you.) It’s easier to deal with now, I know most of its tricks, and can sometimes look past them, but it’s always there, urging me to end it all today. Many times a day. Sigh.
Young people become old.. Most people who suffer depression battle it most of there lives as there is no real cure. More people are being born and more people are becoming depressed so what’s left? I am 27 FYI..
I responded earlier but was focused on the issue of age. Will (it) get better? My answer is yes and no. I have been depressed perhaps fifty years. I know its tricks pretty well and can usually make it look like I have none of it all. The exact opposite is true of course. My therapist has actually helped wipe out a great many of the trigger mechanisms for it so it gets severe less often these days but their are still times when I do get triggered and life is hell and i want to end it all even more than I usually do. Hope this helped a little bit.
This may be incorrect, but from what I’ve seen, most posters are in their 20’s or younger or in their 50’s or older, with a moderate amount of people in their 40’s, meanwhile, there don’t seem to be many people in their 30’s posting.

There is more people than you think… The majority of people I’ve seen are 28 and up.
Really? I see a lot of teenager here. And the two people I knew how kill themselves were under 25

Why did you decide to end your life?

I am 26, I have had depression my entire life but lately its been very severe. I just want to die.
Good question. I’m 59, missing the 60th would be fine. Depression has been on me since say about 8 years old. Plenty depressed as I type now.

plus what seesmith said. The 50+ age range tends to have less computer skills from my experience, and might never come here.
I am not so sure that it gets better. Once you see reality, you can’t unsee it.

30s here, but have been emotionally dead for years.
