But I can see how it must be irritating to be stereotyped all the time.
The thing is: Humans love to generalise, and I think especially older people love to moan about “the youth of today”, etc.
I would comfort myself with the fact that as a young person, you know what is happening, and are likely far more attuned to current and potential future trends.
These kinds of sweeping statements are IMHO more an expression of older people’s anxiety with regards to change and the future, than anything.
i think suicide is often romanticized. i’ll even admit to romanticizing it myself. i’ve just been captivated by the fact some people are driven to end their lives, and i’ve sought to understand, and came to realize that there’s something addictive about it all. this world is beyond insane.
as for it making you “edgy”… *looks up definition* maybe we’ve all somehow bought into the bullshit in the media? the movies, the music videos, everything. we’re all influenced by it.
maybe we’ve been conditioned into thinking it’s somehow good to have a dark side or to embrace it. it’s no doubt it’s dark times, i mean, just watching old vintage films, i can tell people were just different in older times. better, dare i say.
honestly, when i was a teen, i recall finding sadness appealing. i recall wanting to feel like that. i thought it was “cool”. i wanted to understand. i wasn’t always depressed.. as a child, i was generally happy. i was moody as fuck though. still am. sadness was a rarity then. these days, i can hardly gauge what i’m feeling. i tend to shift from quite hopeful to utterly hopeless within minutes, off and on, daily.
Just wait until you get older and realize that all your options suck, and it’s nearly impossible to make enough money to pay your rent, let alone pay your bills or buy food. They’ll say you’re trying to be edgy and hip, and you should stop buying smartphones and avocados. I dunno what it is about smartphones and being edgy, but it seems you can blame everything on those two things.

No, because I’m in my 30s.
