my husband recently completed using the ******** exit bag
he set a timer on his phone for 8 minutes. Can anyone explain why he would need to do this? presumably he’d be dead or unconscious by then?

That is a really good question. Sorry to hear about your husband passing. I can only imagine what you must be going through. The only thing I can think, is so you’d know his time of death?
I don’t think so as it was a timer, a countdown if you like. No start or end time, just counting down from 8 mins
Maybe in order to let himself know that the attempt is failing and he should stop and retry?
Maybe thats how much time the ******** would run. And he knew if he heard his alarm, he needed to fix something.
