How many of us oldtimers and even semi-new SP members miss the “Recent Comments” section? Bring it back, Admins! What the F were you thinking, anyway? Many of us come here for a little relief, sometimes comic, from the grind that is living on planet Earth. I don’t like to post that often, I’m kinda reclusive as I’m guessing many of us SP’ers are, and I miss being able to check out what some of my favorite posters are talking about, without having to scroll through all the posts…
Come on, give us a break. We’re F’ing suicidal.

What’s the biggest difference between pigeons and SP’s admin. The pigeons actually give a shit.
I think they removed it to cut down on trolling. While you could follow posters you liked at the same time there were those who would stalk others and make harassing remarks or get their comments deleted by making false hate reports.
I believe that they should go further and allow you to block people here so they can’t see your comments and optionally so you can’t see theirs, much like they have on social media sites like Twitter. This is esp needed on a suicide-related site.
Of course, most people here are pretty decent but there are occasionally one or two bad apples that manage to fly under the admin’s radars and get away with their trolling. Not so much now but it was worse before.
That ‘ignore’ button doesn’t seem to serve any function.
I looked that up on the Wordpress site where they say if you the poster click it the comment goes away and the commentor will be blocked from you the poster’s next three or four stories.
a1957, ya I tried but it did nothing for me, perhaps it’s my browser. Not a biggie though I think a block function would be much better.
Nah, I’d rather be blended into obscurity. It’s more fun that way.
Nah, you’re anything but obscure now.
Shhhh, someone might hear you and then my cover will be blown!
I miss being able to click on the top tool bar and see all the comments (not posts) i’d like that back rather than the recent comments. or is that what you meant?
There is saying in the forum business about sidebars that goes like this: “they don’t convert well” which seems to mean they don’t offer much information. But the one thing that Recent Comments side bar did was let you get a ready picture of who was on here. I can remember when the number of comments on story once topped two hundred because we could easily see who all was on. What a party that was!
Yeah, it was actually kind of fun! What a concept, suicidal people coming together and having a good time without some anonymous intervention telling us it might not be “safe” enough.
That sounds dangerous. Someone might say a naughty word and contaminate the whole site.
Yeah, we might actually talk like real people instead of sanitized versions of ourselves. Oh well… those were the somewhat good old days. It seems like just yesterday, or maybe I’m just imagining it. Were there ever really “good old days?”
Can It Be All So Simple?
There were days, and it’s probably good that they’re in the past now. Time would be too confusing otherwise. So…. maybe they were good in a manner of speaking. Either way, they were definitely days.
Since the Recent Comments widget was turned off, I have been gradually more and more inclined to comment on stories. For better or for worse, I imagine the idea of turning off the Recent Comments widget was to direct our attention more towards the stories.
I liked recent comments too
