If God is real and actually cares about humans… Then why do over 800,000 people kill themselves every year? That’s about 123 a day. Every day.
And attempted suicide is even higher.
It seems to me that a loving God would not make life so difficult for so many.

Drug overdose statistics are much, much bigger, and people use drugs for the same reason. As far as opiates go, God’s got nothing on…well, opiates.
Good point.
I’d love to hear why theists still believe in a supposedly loving God when it doesn’t seem to give a crap about so many humans.
We created the concept of a loving god. It’s pretty obvious by simple observation of nature and life that there’s no divine being exercising empathy from afar. We needed a fairy tale to validate our existence, so we “divined” a phantasm above the clouds who just happens to resemble us and act like us, and now we spend our days wondering why it doesn’t care. Chuckle. We’re so. . . needy.
I completely agree with you… But the question was for believers. I’m interested in hearing their justification for belief despite all evidence to the contrary.
They have answers for everything!
Why so many suicides? ‘They were all sinners.’ Why bad things happen to good people? ‘They are not religious enough (or practise the wrong religion).’ Why life sucks even for the most religious? ‘Bad karma from distant past is the seed of their suffering. But hey, they can still win a ticket to heaven if they believe every word of this ancient children’s storybook.’
You can’t win an argument with them where logic is not a criteria. That’s why I keep all my doubt to myself.
You can’t win an argument against humans when the answers might threaten their accepted cultural conditioning.*
Fixed for factual content.
Hello there . Good question. In lawyer speak they like to refer to a question of this magnitude as a “bundled question”. It has to be unbundled which is to say it is essentially beyond the scope of this site to handle the answering of it. To get articulate information regarding that question google “why would a loving god allow suffering”.
Again, I want to assure you it is a good question. It has come up many times on this site. Good luck with your search, whatever the answer you come up with.
I posed that question to a Pastor friend. Her answer is that God gave us the gift of free will and does not interfere with our rights to choose.. so there are many ugly and hateful things and people in this world who place suffering upon others… and people such as us (SP community) decide of our own free will whether to fight or not.
Spiteful actions are a choice, so are our departures. Free will is something that that isn’t trifled with, even if it could save many, to take free will would interfere with our inherent nature.
God hardened Pharoh’s heart to create an opening to demonstrate his might and power to the enslaved Hebrews. There are many incidents like that strewn throughout both old and new testaments – god is inherently a showoff. Your pastor friend was taking the easy way out of the question.
Can’t really expect a reasonable explanation for the massive injustices in the world, and the gruesome state it’s in.. I suppose my friend answered in the best way she could.
Free will seems to be the way of most humans behave most of the time, with notable exceptions, such as above. I suspect many, many, other exceptions but that is my own speculation.
GOD = DOG … always leaving a pile of shit wherever it goes. Not worth the effort or the time.
Used to believe. Not anymore.
If god was so great why all the mayhem? Why all the wars. Why all the bad stuff. No, I don’t really believe anymore. I’ve lost that faith long ago…..
