I’m not 50 but I’m older than the average (assuming from past threads that the average here is mid 20s).
As of the most recent US data, 2016, the suicide rates are highest in the 45-64 age group. And yet there aren’t too many people from that demographic posting here. I guess it’s because they don’t talk, they just do it, whereas maybe younger people hold on to some hope of reaching out.
To be sure, 50 is arbitrary, especially considering you’re absolutely right that the the average age here seems to be 20ish (or maybe younger). I just think our life experiences, expectations, hopes, dreams, disappointments are different than young people. Being able to relate is such an important part of this site. A separate category wouldn’t mean that those outside the age group couldn’t contribute or benefit (nor would that be a good thing). I am convinced, however, that it would greatly increase the value of this site to our cohort to know that you’re connecting with people on the same arc.
