“meant” implies intention, which is part of the central egoism absorbing our species. Maybe there is a higher power, but even if there is we can’t be sure it/she/he intended anything.
The thing we call pleasure is a feedback mechanism of security. It is enjoyable because it is unnecessary. We are brought into this world because of a strong biological drive to procreate. While some of us may resist it, unavoidably some won’t be able to. Hence humanity limps along, sustaining itself on the scraps who can’t resist urges.
At the same time, austerity is just as much a trap. It creates a false sense of moral certainty, because no matter how much you deny yourself, you still don’t know it all. The mysteries are just as potent, the confusion as complete.
The process of education is to deliberately scrape away the natural human instinct to believe in hard facts. Which is why, at my current point, I can’t positively believe that anything has ever been “meant”. It just is. We are on this planet because we are, someday we won’t be.
My purpose is to try and promote kindness and punish cruelty, which is something I am starting to realize is a very difficult problem.
we’re not “meant” to do anything. we live and we die. we survive as long as this world and our bodies allow. experiencing joy along the way is something great, but it’s not that easy for a lot of us.

I think it depends. Do you have something to endure life for? Or are you religious/spiritual?
it’s meant to be survived.
it’s meant to be lived. But it feels more like something that needs to be survived these days

I agree with Alone. Life could care less if we enjoy the ride…it just needs us to reproduce. Beyond that, we’re pointless.
everyone suffers from the gift of consciousness, but a gift is still a gift
