“Once the choice is made … the actions have no choice but to follow – Just Like that!”
There are so many problems with this statement. I will only point out the logical problems.
“Once the choice is made” presupposes that choices can be made, that is, we have free will. But “the actions have no choice but to follow” suggests that there is no free will. You are saying that we do have free will and that we do not have free will, which is a contradiction.
The ability to make decisions should not be ascribed to actions. Actions do not make choices, people and other nonhuman animals make choices. Your statement suggests that there are two separate agents involved in the making and carrying out of the choices we make. One agent has free will and the other does not.
Let’s say that I choose to do a particular action, which I will call A. Based on your statement, I will do what is required to do A, which I will call B. If I decide to do A (exercise of free will), B will occur necessarily, that is, I will not be able to do otherwise (inability to exercise free will).
Your statement and the image that accompanies it remind me of the new age self help sophistry that Oprah Winfrey and other new age gurus promote. Such sophistry appeals primarily to people who lack proficiency in logic.
If your statement is meant to be interpreted as paradoxical, how would resolve the paradox?
the “choice” is how to FEEL … when we FEEL happy, we ACT happy … when we FEEL sad, we ACT sad etc … see how this works? … there is nothing … NOTHING … reasonable, rational or logical about FEELINGS
Do bad things happen to good people, happy people … things out of our control? Absolutely! … how we CHOOSE to FEEL about this things is OUR choice … I could FEEL angry that you’d attack this post in this manner … some folks might … but i actually feel indifferent to your “need” to attempt to exhibit a presumed “superiority” … and I FEEL a little sorry for you that you got yourself all twisted and worked up to “prove” the statement wrong when you completely whiffed on the whole point. I don’t know where all that comes from but … man, let it go … let it go … choose to take it at face value instead of needing to apply nuclear physics to a simple statement on choosing how to FEEL.
I know nothing of oprahs’s self help whatever … but if it helps people cope, why take it away? and what would you have them replace it with? the “enlightenment” of god? talk about a paradox … every religion is rife with contradictory bogusness all surrounding the premise of an invisible all knowing all loving old beardy cloud hopping guy who magically “sends messages” to us by putting his zombie son’s picture on toast … yeah … that’s “real”
Your interpretation of my post as a manifestation of my superiority tells me a lot about you Dawg.
Your reply to my post presupposes too much. You made several false assumptions about me. You should have analyzed my argument. Instead, you tried to analyze me. Your analysis of my personality is another example of your lack of proficiency in logic (look up the fallacy called argumentum ad hominem).
“and what would you have them replace it with? the “enlightenment†of god?”
I do not believe in God, so I would not suggest that people try to find enlightenment from him.
Hopefully, you will learn from others pointing out errors in your reasoning. You should refrain from interpreting any criticism of your posts as feelings of superiority. That fact that you interpret my post as a manifestation of my superiority, suggests to me that you feel inferior.
The young uneducated illogical people on this site may regard you as a sage, but I see you as an unconscious fool.
Your posts provided some comic relief. Thanks for that. Having a good laugh can be very therapeutic.
so … you double down and whiffed again … the reason I did not “analyse” your “argument’ is because you argument is irrelevant … “red” does not equal “green” … black is not white and five is not three.
one difference between you and I is, i do make every effort to learn from my errors – if they are, if fact, errors – and I really try not to call names when they do point them out … maybe I was wrong to “presume” that you have a need to prove your superiority … but in your own words:
“The –young uneducated illogical people on this site– may regard you as a sage, but –I see you as an unconscious fool–.”
You not only show your derision for me, but for a large part of the readers of this site. I don’t “claim” to be a “sage” … I merely offer my experience … no one owes me anything and I owe them nothing … I choose to participate and contribute in the most helpful and compassionate way I can to those who might find my words and experiences to be so … I’m quite sure I am inferior and flawed in many ways … but I’ll take my flaws over your disdain and name calling for everyone any day
i’m glad I could help you by reassuring you with my unconsciously foolish inferiority that you are victorious and superior – if that’s what it takes then so be it – although I maintain and stand by my every word – I’m glad and honored to have brightened your day 🙂
You know, awhile ago I would have totally laughed at this and ignored it and continued being my pathetic depressed self but recently my thoughts have changed. Like one day I just ‘grew up’ and matured as a person. I didn’t want my life to suck anymore, so I started thinking about all the good stuff.
After that I made amends with old friends and aploigised to those who needed apologising too.
so yeah life kinda worked itself out, just by a different way of thinking. sure there are still some rough patches but I just don’t let the little things bother me anymore.
so yeah this is really true
cheers~

Insert “you” between “would” and “resolve” in the last sentence.

Hmm, someone has some misplaced anger.
Can I point out, it was *presumed* superiority, no one said @thanatopsis actually HAD any.
A good laugh is very theraputic indeed ^_^
