They told us what life’s about,
Grow up, do well in school, and don’t act out,
Make friends, find love and get employed,
Marry, get a mortgage, be overjoyed,
Have kids, watch TV, don’t forget to vote,
Go to church, find some hobbies, congratulations you’re afloat,
Donate to charity, go on vacation, but ignore temptation,
Grow old, retire, spoil the children, and thank your democratic nation,
Reminisce, be at peace and look forward to the afterlife of your choosing…
Yawn.
Forgive me for snoozing.
I can’t help but think how fucked we all are,
If the above is the ideal then we’re all screwed,
We’re told from birth “this is the planâ€,
Society sets this norm…builds this pedestal,
There’s no room for failure, no leverage and no room to manoeuvre,
That’s what the labels are for-
Loser, freak, weirdo, bastard, *****
We’ve heard them all before,
It’s just not achievable. It’s a dream, an illusion- the big cosmic lie,
Of course there are the lucky few. The ones that walk in the light so to speak,
I’ve never met them…but they must be there right?

yes, there are, and not just one or two. I would say, around 90% of people have great lives, while they can have some minor occasional problem, they are so well off in all senses that they easily neutralize it.
The plan you describe in your poem is ideal and that is what I would have liked to have done but did not manage to go pass the first line, i did good at school and university, that is all. I didnt make it to even have a go at the following lines and skipped by force the whole bulk to jump down to the last line sooner than anticipated.
I have however met a 2 year old girl who looked like shirley temple but she died of a terrible cancer at that age. Then I met a beautiful 16 year old girl who did not make it pass the 18 birthday because she choked breathless on her cystic fibrosis. Those are extreme cases, terrible cases.
So the statistics are , 90% of people have great lives, at least emotionally, some may be poor or bad off but emotionally they dont suffer, either because they are well protected, or because they are unsensitive and brute and just dont notice. Then 9.9% suffer emotionally from much to awful lot, and then the 0.something % tragic lives. I am somewhere within those 9.9%
Human beings are not perfect.
We are a species that still continue evolving.
It is said that “People need dramatic examples to shake them out of apathy” (Batman Begins). Humanity, at the worst, would hopefully able to learn from the worst event, perhaps from a catastrophical event, so they can continue on living as a species. or otherwise, we would all just get wiped out, perish, and the Earth (& Universe) would just keep flowing and continue its cycle.
