There has been some discussion on why using a gun is not effective and painless. As a person who has worked in a medical field, I can tell you…I have seen people who did not die after being shot in the head…One guy shot himself twice and still lived. The life you have after living through a couple of bullets to the head is much more miserable than whatever life you have now. So I would suggest not using a gun.
Also, if you are under age 30, I would wait it out and try to get some treatment for depression. Try to get some help before you make the final decision that it is time to get out of here. And try to live at least a few years, even if they suck, just to see what will happen. Had I succeeded in killing myself earlier in life, I would have missed a lot of cool people, having kids, meeting a couple of loves of my life. Now all that is over in my life. I am old and sick and in pain, but I did do a few things along the way that will make for a life story….if I had died before I was fifty, I would have never known one of the great loves of my life. Even though he turned out to be a shit, there was a couple of fun years in there….and there were times when antidepressants helped. If your parents are abusing you, tell somebody and get their asses thrown in jail. It will make you feel better to see justice done. Why should you die, and they go unpunished? Anyway….these are just a few thoughts….If you are in Middle School, you should at least talk to someone and try some medication…coz you aren’t even you yet, and you might turn out to be a really cool person. Not to sound all cheery and hopeful…..coz my life does suck, but maybe yours will be better when you get out of middle school, coz middle school sucks, people are treacherous and mean to each other at that age, you still might grow four or five inches, or meet the love of your life or whatever. Just sayng…

You can use a gun, provided you use a hollow point.
Like anything in life – if you act rash and spontaneous, the likelihood of the desired outcome is decreased … anything worth doing needs thought, preparation and planning. another theme that seems to be prevalent is many folks here seem to be waiting for someone.something to come along and identify their plight, take pity and have the compassion, time and means to do all the work to “fix” everything – newsflash – it ain’t gonna happen.
assess your situation, prioritize your needs/wants/desires – realistically but OBJECTIVELY (take emotion out of the equation), plan and begin building your new life in the way you want it to be – not how you think others say it should be … be honest with yourself but be FAIR … if you think you’re ugly/fat/short/tall – i promise i can show you 20 people uglier/fatter/shorter/taller – that overcame their (perceived) shortcomings and became 20 times more successful/popular than you ever thought possible
But bottom line – no one but you can do it … and you CAN do it … and everyone fails at some point so don’t get discouraged – failure is just a detour – not a dead end
unstoppable dawg
That was good advise Tapestry. I’m glad that you posted it. Guns are often assumed to be lethal, since many people are shot and killed every year, but there is always the chance that you will survive and be a ‘vegetable’ for the rest of your life. I also think that suicidal students should always seek help. As a teacher, it makes me sad seeing so many depressed and suicidal students here on this site and nothing being done to help them. Kids, get help with your mental illnesses.
Dave – i’m going to push back on your statement of “nothing is being done …”
You’re here – i’m here, dozens of others are here – this site is here and although it doesn’t always help it IS an outlet that gives pause, delay and at least some type of feedback to those who feel they aren’t being heard and don’t/can’t trust the establishment of the medical/mental health professionals who are bound by laws of notification to parents/guardians or other authorities where often times are the cause for the depression and desperate situations that some people are faced with. additionally – not everyone is mentally ill.
You are correct – they should get help, take stock, pause, reflect … anything to stall delay the moment they feel the most hopeless and out of control to where suicide makes rational sense – but get it anywhere that it’s available and anywhere it’s offered – places like this website – from people who have been in their shoes and have made it to the other side to find better days … i’d argue that some of the folks here can offer way better hope or advice that some dr. who has never had wan for anything and has always had loving and supportive family to give them everything they every asked for and paid for their education … not to say that those dr.’s/counselors don’t have good intentions but they’ve never faced some of these adversities anywhere other than in an academic classroom setting.
2 cents dawg
Tapestry, you might be right about guns being less lethal than they’re thought to be. But the cases you’re talking about are very few. With a shot to the head (given a good gun) chances of death are as much as 99%. In the RARE cases of survival all the senses are basically knocked out of you, meaning you’ll hardly ever feel anything again. Yes, you’ll look miserable to those who happen to see you, but actually, you’ve got your way – you are absolutely oblivious and nothing else matters. Death will find you shortly thereafter. And the minutes won’t seem like years…
And, finally… it’s someone’s last hope. DON’T take it away. That’s the only thing we live by.
