I’ve been depressed since I was 12, and recently I’ve been thinking about suicide nearly every day. I have a wonderful family, friends, and a boyfriend, so I feel like I don’t even deserve to feel depressed, but I do.
I hate how bad the world seems to be. All we ever talk about in school is how terrible people can be (racism, sexism, slavery, discrimination), and my parents say the same things. I keep trying to find good in the world but it gets eclipsed by cruelty. Everyone seems to resent having children or being in committed relationships. I just get frustrated with everyone I know, and I prefer to be alone. I want to die, but I hate pain.
Every day i tell myself how stupid i am. i hate who i am and what i do. I don’t know what to do anymore.

do you want to talk about it?
i feel the same exact way!
The world is a rotten place, but there are good people in it, yourself being one of them. Try getting on some medication for your depression.
How old are you?
There is still hope if you’re young…. if you’re past your prime (like me), then I don’t know what to tell you. The current economy/job market is not kind to my generation.
Yes, people suck. That’s a universal problem. But there are more ignorant people in some regions of the country. Stay away from the red states.
If you’re young, learn as many languages as you can. Travel the world!
God, I wish I were young again…
Hun, i think the ultimate solution for that, is to do something epically WACKY! Become a Vegan (i am, it’s so fun +_+) learn a language, do some Yoga…. OOOO VOLUNTEER FOR SOMETHING!! But, sweetie, you desere to live, and if you didn’t, God wouldn’t have created you 🙂
I am young, I’m 18 years old.
And I actually live in a red state, North Carolina 🙂 Or maybe it’s a swing state. I’m from up north tho
Sure. I don’t really know where to start. Like I said, my life is pretty comfortable. It’s what’s in my head that’s messed up.
So what’s your reason for feeling like I do?
Finding “good” in the world is easy … when you learn to recognize it as “good” … our news media loves to sensationalize bad things and if they even mention the good stuff, it’s usually a footnote or an aside. Good things are usually local and person to person – but those things don’t make headlines and it doesn’t get the credit it deserves as actually being a “good” thing … it gets written off as “expected”. for every one person making headlines spouting hate and racism and sexism there are 100 people of all different races and sexualities who join hands in opposition to the haters … but they go nameless and faceless … but if they were NOT there it would be VERY obvious.
Step back and focus on the things within your sphere of influence and control – everything else is just background noise. Change things you can change that you don’t like – accept things you cannot change – if you don’t like them, avoid them to the extent possible.
