Don’t feel guilty. Your parents are just trying to give you the opportunity to have a better life than theirs.
Money shouldn’t really be an issue for high school, I think (although I don’t know your circumstances). If you go to a public school that should be free right? You could always share books in class and borrow books from the library.. we don’t have prom here but we have ball.. and as a girl, I’d say that it shouldn’t cost more than $200 maybe? that’s including an outfit – but that can always be borrowed from friend. A laptop isn’t really necessary for high school or college – although it is useful.
Money for college may be a different thing though.. over here, university is pretty affordable compared to in the usa (assuming you live there).. if really want it, and really want a certain career.. you should start aiming for a scholarship for that.. and even if you don’t get it, your family will probably deem it worthy to invest more money in your education if you want it bad enough.. and perhaps you can think about getting a part time job as well in the mean time to help out..
One of my family members came from a poor family of 13 living in a 2 bedroom house.. a few of them were really bright and they have indeed managed to change their situation. My grandparents took the chance to invest on the few bright ones.. and although it may have been a struggle.. it was worth it in the end because they managed to get good jobs (although college isn’t really necessary for getting good jobs) and they in turn helped my grandparents pay for their living costs and medical bills.
The bottom line is, don’t give up.. money is such a superficial thing. And I’m sure your parents will be happy knowing that you are fed, well, happy and can better life. Just keep doing your best. No need for guilt.
Yeah..don’t be so hard on yourself little chicky! 🙂 and do whatever sounds best for you. If you want to go out and have fun one day go ahead. Just be careful out there on your own. And don’t hurt yourself. lol
