I hope you don’t mean me – I’m scatterbrained like a hyperactive squirrel and sometimes forget to tie my shoes making me trip down flights of stairs. 😮 lol
There are a few individuals I’ve noticed that seem extraordinarily intelligent ….Persephone, Clevername, Stendarrs *****, Dawg,Lucy and yes Lorax as well….There are probably others but these people usually say a thing or two I really have to think about….
BTW I’m not calling anybody dumb I just think these people (and there are others) are above the standard definition of intelligent.
@PainNlife Wow, I’m flattered. I agree about all the others you mentioned, and there are more I could name too, but I’m totally not deserving of this recognition. 😉 And you’re very intelligent, yourself.
I have mental retardation. I have been mentally retarded all my life.
Hate saying those words but it is the truth as part of my condition.
All you really have to do is see the unusual shape of my face and eyes and you can tell I have mental retardation.
However my knowledge of life comes from a deeper place than can be found in any books- one painful life experience after another,
and taking the time to read and study literature which most people don’t do nowadays. The literary/verbal part of my brain is the only part of my body and brain that is unscathed by the genetic disorder
I find that amazing Rach cause you are so clear when you speak and I’ve always been under the impression that mental retardation always impairs speech in some way or another. I guess I was pretty ignorant to the definition of it. For what it’s worth, I know you’re in a lot of pain and have been for a long while, but you’re consistent with who you are and it comes through all your posts and you seem like someone I’d want to know in real life. You seem to keep things honest.
Oh and I have a ton of acne scarring/acne so I know what it’s like to feel like everyone’s staring at you because you’re different than the norm. Maybe that’s why I also relate to you. I try not to leave the house much anymore, only if I have to. I guess the only difference is my life has become like this within the past couple years whereas you’ve felt like this all along…you’re incredibly strong. I’m breaking down after a couple years of feeling this shitty and having to deal with the stares. How do you cope with it? Just block it out or avoid it altogether?
“Normal” people fear those who are different or “defective.” “Retarded” and “stupid” are not the same at all. Retarded literally means slowed or stunted. Just because someone thinks with less velocity, or takes longer to learn something, that doesn’t mean they have to be stupid or less understanding of anything.
I see a lot of gays who get upset when anyone uses that term as a derogatory term, rather than to represent homosexuality… but does anyone ever stop and think about the word “Retard?” “To retard” means to slow, but “A retard” is, imo, far worse than saying “that’s gay.” So, abusing the word “retard,” is “gay.” lol.
Anyway.
Rach, despite your allegedly astounding difficulties, you communicate better than Most people i’ve encountered. I would say you belong on Pain’s list, even if only for your clarity of communication alone. You certainly do post thoughtful and thought provoking things here.
Something i often think about, upon reading your posts, which is kind of sad… is how i think that if not for your alleged visually identifiable defects, you probably would have had a fine life… but so many other people out there have nothing to worry about in the looks department, and still find themselves suffering excessively. Even “the pretty ones” can get suck with enduring a lifetime of suffering, often for incredibly unfair circumstances they didn’t choose, which are beyond their control.
And then i remember all those pretty ones who can’t communicate to save their own lives, who never even have the realization occur to them, that they are highly privileged due to their lucky genetics producing favorable visual and physical traits. They seem to think it’s so difficult to have to deal with lots of positive attention and people telling them how gorgeous they are… like that’s some kind of “challenge.” lol. Idk. It’s like they aren’t even really human. They’re missing out on a huge part of the human experience: wisdom acquired through inevitable suffering, ostracism, disregard, and dismissal.
Rach, i wish you could find a way to not be physically miserable, so that you could have plenty of time to use your mind for something worth your own effort… something you want to do, just because you care to do so, and not based on whether anyone else will appreciate it. Although, i think many people in this world could appreciate some of what you could do with your mind. Not everyone is as horrible as the apparent majority.
@scaredkitty there are very many different genetic disorders that can have disasterous effects on the brain and cause mental retardation. Most people are familiar just with down syndrome. The part of my brain that handles the literary and verbal stuff has developed well, in fact I was placed in many advanced reading and English classes in school. However the other parts of my brain are very underdeveloped so that I cannot drive, live independently, work a typical job, remember things, do basic math, and the list goes on and on. I think the verbal part of my mind might have overdeveloped whilst the rest underdeveloped, like a blind person who learns to rely on their ears rather than eyes.
How do I cope with being treated cruelly by people? Well…I’m under no illusions, I know that people are not going to treat me well and so I don’t expect it. I avoid people unless I know them. I try to avoid calling attention to myself. I have figured out that the majority of people are evil, and so to be outcast from the majority means I am not evil like them. Maybe god made me so different to keep me away from them, like quarantining me away. Ever seen the movie AI? The “flesh fair”? That’s how the vast majority of people are, they like to tear apart anyone they think is inferior. If people verbally harass me I will curse them out or call the police. Sometimes the claws come out. I imagine a great flood coming to sweep away all the evil people and leave behind only the animals and the people who are worthy to live.
Woah, I did not expect my name to be included in such a prestigious list, that really made my day, my week probably more, thank you.
@Clevername
Now I’m not defending the use of the word, and there’s a very wide spectrum of mental retardation, but what defines basic mental retardation is having an IQ of under 70. Having an IQ of that level is an implication of cognitive defects which may very well result in a person’s impaired logic comprehension (Oh dear, here I go with logic again) so the word may also be used synonymous with ‘unreasonable’ or ‘illogical’ because that’s a theme that is apparent in basic mental retardation. I agree, it’s quite offensive, but I can see why the word has evolved to mean the definition that it now bears in modern society. Terms that may also be equated to this may be “Aren’t you blind?” “Are you deaf?” “Dude, I’m so depressed” which are used commonly in modern diction. They are each exaggerations of the actual condition, but may be interpreted in an offensive manner despite their not actually targeting individuals with whom bear the condition. They are just referencing corresponding symptoms that the person is displaying that are similar to symptoms of the condition. I wouldn’t use the word “retarded” myself though
I appreciate your clarification, and +1 for using the term “diction.”
You’re right, and i’m not entirely innocent of using the term, nor of using hyperbole in communication… but i try not to. It’s just that communicating “with” others, often requires meeting in a common ground, in the overlap, rather than communicating “at them.” I try to use accurate and fair terminology in communication. As i’m guessing is evident, this can cause complications.
I like how quite a few of the people I had in mind while posting this commented here:) you all simply amaze me, and I will say it was specifically clevername and another who I just can’t think of at the moment that I was thinking of when I posted:)

@lorax Absentmindedness is a clear sign of a great thinker. You got it, boi.
I’m not too smart but I have a tendency to walk into things without seeing them. Take that as you will.
