I hate it when one minute your up and the next your down. No one to talk to so you question your reason for being here. Everyone has a purpose, but whats mine? To be miserable? I’m that person that people can come talk to about anything and i’ll listen but no one listens to me. People think i’m shy but i’m just trying to get out of my thoughts and push through another day. I’ve made it this far. Guess i’m doing something right? For a change….

@l0sts0ul – There is no reason we are here. There is no god – we’re here by chance. There is no fate. You’re not born to do anything. Everyone is born by chance and everything about every person is by chance. If you look at life through the perspective that everyone has a purpose, then life will look worse than it is. What is the purpose of people who are born into extreme poverty? What is the purpose of people who are born mentally or physically disabled? What is the purpose of people who rape or murder? No one has any purpose. We all have different experiences that lead us to become different people. No one has a purpose that they’ve achieved or live to achieve.
Some people have an impact on humanity others don’t. But in the grand scheme of things, humanity has no impact on anything. Eventually we will all die. Anything any person has done will mean squat. Even if we do fuck up the earth, the earth is miniscule in the universe. Humanity is nothing.
For these reasons, I have concluded that the only thing that is worth trying to do with our lives is simply to live for ourselves – for our own enjoyment. Live because you enjoy your life.
I know this easier said than done (I personally struggle with this) but it’s easier than searching in vain for a purpose that isn’t there, given to you by a god that has never existed.

I’ll take a stab at answering your inquiries:

Not that i think you are an actual idiot – but you’re an idiot if you think that spamming the boards with generic “read the bible” comments is in any way helpful – as if no one has ever heard of the bible/religion … most people are here because of the silly shit mortals do in the name of religion and god or they’ve at least attempted to explore that avenue for answers in their desperation – it’s unhelpful at best … patronizing and offensive at worst – if there is an aspect or lesson from the bible that applies – share it – don’t further frustrate people by forcing them to hunt for it in a big convoluted fiction book

No one can “be sure” there is no god … just like no one can be sure there IS a god … but there’s zero proof or evidence that would even suggest such a being exists …and that is especially disturbing when one considers the absolute awesome power and knowledge such a being is purported to possess. As for a purpose to life – other than to procreate to supply unique DNA to the species, there isn’t much purpose … if there was it would have had some outline or foundation for all humanity by now – but nope – we’re all left to our own devices to choose whatever path and purpose we’d have – not that there is anything wrong with that – but it serves no ultimate endgame

Thanks Dawg, I appreciate the input. I’ll take your advice in the future and not generically post “read the bible” quite as much. I agree.
However, I do think there is evidence that god exists, in the very existence of a complex species like us, a complex planet, the chance is just too great in my opinion.
There’s a whole universe full of complex planets – and by shear numbers, likely many complex species – and that’s just if we stay limited to the some 14 billion light year universe we are able to “see” so far – that would not include any other universes. I can respect your beliefs, but just because you don’t “know” and can’t comprehend the vastness of the cosmos and how many potential possible similar worlds could be out there does NOT constitute “evidence” of anything. it’s exceptionally presumptuous and egotistically selfish to thing that a god created the entirety of the universe and beyond … just for us?!?
