I never really noticed it as a kid. Things have changed now. As an adult, all I hear in the news is ‘college girls raped’, ‘such and such young kid killed’, ‘terrorists killing americans’, list goes on. Keep in mind, these news stations wouldn’t be getting good ratings if viewers didn’t tune in. So, I’ve come to the conclusion that we as people generally want to hear the horrors of the world. Good stories are boring right? I’d rather hear about some beheading (not serious). Let’s sprinkle in one good story about a puppy being saved. What’s wrong with our society that we seek negativity and it entertains us. Makes me think of gladiator games. Just look how fast someone changes the channel when a lotto winner is announced and it’s not them. I don’t know where this conditioning to seek violence and evil from news comes from but it’s crazy. I kind of feel normal in comparison to those people yet I’ve been suicidal. I don’t watch the news after my realization about popularity of negativity from the media. What’s your thoughts? Have you noticed how the news is portrayed?

Sensation sells. Film at 11.
Yeah, its all about ratings. They have done studies and they find out that people click on the stories with violence and corruption more then they click on positive stories.
they focus on that because that is what humans seem to want to read about.
Its sad but its true.
Well I personally enjoy hearing of negative things…. they make for far more interesting stories…. not sure why but that seems to be what draws most peoples attention…. I don’t watch news for the most part. -_-
Pretty sure that nowadays, at least at the age I noticed it, they have “Uplifting News” segments, but obviously not the main attraction. And I think it’s good we are informed about tragedies or confrontations because it raises awareness. I don’t want to hear about the ethnic cleansing in Africa, the floods in India, or 20 people going missing in Mexico, but I’d rather know it happened.
Yeah it’s all depressing.
