Hey guys, so I was digging through some old stuff yesterday and I found a poem I wrote a month or so ago. It probably won’t make much of a difference, but I’m hoping it will make someone feel better about themselves;it always cheers me up when I read it.
Beauty
Saying you are ugly is like calling a cow a pig.
A lie;a twisted image.
Our thoughts of the person in the mirror shatters reality. Piece by piece,we pick apart the artwork. Piece by tiny piece, we shatter the truth.
But tell me, who picks apart the Mona Lisa? Who picks apart the work of an artistic deity?
All it takes is one flaw.
That flaw can tear our hearts apart, or it can fill the gap;it can make the difference between a tragedy and a romance.
We are, in each and every flaw, beautiful. It takes one flaw to create the beauty of humanity, the delicacy of our kind.
Why strive for excellence when we have already reached the finish line?
We push and force, pull and tweak.
We run for the goal we have already reached.
Our race is blind to beauty, and we cannot see our mistake.
All we see is our ancient knowledge of self-destruction.
I’m not trying to romanticise mental illnesses, or anything of the sort. I guess what I’m trying to say, is our flaws don’t make us unlovable, or bad people. Our flaws are what make us human, and in a harsh world such as this one, love is extremely important. I know it’s not easy to love yourself, but trying is the first step.
