We are monsters. Our animalistic instinct is our fight or flight reflexes. Most of the time our reflexes say fight, thinking they will win. Sometimes they say take flight. The human race is going to shit, we’re becoming animals, monsters even. And for some reason the only people who can see this are the people who have been through a tragedy, they’ve been through hell and back, not much has changed. So when it comes to depression you either fight it (work through the stuff, make it better for yourself) or you take flight (give up or commit suicide). That’s just they way we’ve always been. Its genes that come from our ancestors, decades behind us, the first of the first. That’s where that comes from, I believe. We kill, we steal, we rape, we rummage and not many people care to fix it. We’re just monsters that are superior to others. We’re just a bit more advanced than the others, but monsters are monsters all the same.

Some people are shit yes, but I have met some really good people. Even if the majority of people were terrible, the goods one are worth believing in and fighting for. This world corrupts people, even some people who used to be good were fucked over and became bad in time. People need to remember what is important and real in life. I think Specifically in America we are so caught up in bullshit and media we are becoming blind, shallow, dumb and apathetic and it drives free thinkers like me insane.
I completely agree with you. This post was meant for those people, the monsters in the world.
We’re becoming animals? We’re becoming monsters? No, we’ve always been both of those things. We never had to become them, because we were already there. And anybody who thinks that they’re “above it all” is just lying to themself.
Humans today are exactly the same as their stone-age ancestors. There was never any change. All that changed was our technology. Not our natures, not our psychology. We are as we always have been.
And nothing will fix that. Nothing can “fix” society, because society will never not reflect human nature, and human nature will never be anything but monstrous.
That doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t fight it. We should still try to be good. But we need to be honest about it. We need to know the truth. And the truth is, all of us are monsters. Every single one.
whiskered-fish, i do believe you are one sharp cookie!!
Thank you for the compliment, Rocketman. But I don’t think you and I really agree. Maybe you agree with what I said above, but if I were to speak any further, you’d realize that I have a very different outlook on the human race than you do. That’s not a bad thing, of course. I’m just pointing it out.
whiskered-fish, the problem is we are to much a like!! 🙂 opposite attract you know the story. of course we don’t agree on everything. minor details. i think perhaps and i mean this in a good way, i come to realize just how fucked up thing’s are, it took a life time to accept it, you are a young little fishy and at the moment can’t accept it. it bothers you! i was the same way. in any case you are a sharp cookie! i didn’t figure out what was going on for a long long time it’s hard to swallow hook line and sinker.
Don’t worry, I’m not offended or anything by what you said. I just don’t think that you’re right. I mean, I could always be wrong. But I think the difference between us isn’t that I can’t accept how fucked up everything is, because I already believe that everything is fucked up and I have no trouble admitting it.
I just, unlike you, believe that humans are special, and important. I’m an unapologetic anthropocentrist. Humans are monsters, sure, but they’re also valuable and worth loving anyway. They’re also the best of Earth’s creatures (although spiders are a very close second).
Silly, I know. But that’s my opinion.
that’s it? that’s where we differ? ha ha! my little whiskered-fish! we human being’s can be special, and can be humane, and can make a difference to other human being’s, of course! i might add that what i try to do everyday, sometimes it’s hard to convey what one is thinking i a few sentences, we could write a novel! when i talk about us being predators we also have the ability to laugh to smile to be kind, to make a difference, we can be marvelous creatures! i try to be.
No, I don’t mean that we’re special because we have the capacity to be good and be humane and make a difference. That isn’t special at all. Don’t animals also have that capacity?
I mean that the human race has an intrinsic worth that’s supernatural in origin. You don’t believe in the supernatural.
got me there!!!! 🙂 twilight zone music!! no i don’t believe in the super natural, the words super natural say’s it all! i don’t believe in table tapping to connect with dead love one’s, i believe in what’s in front of me, what i can see, if there was a god would he let these terrible things happen? little children born with no arms and no legs, people being murdered, people starving, what kind of god is that? if there is one i’d punch him right in the mouth!! yes we differ there, we are born, we breath, then we die, there isn’t any super natural shit helping anyone, it’s fishful thinking! ha! i cracked a funny!! 🙂
I will never for the life of me understand why people believe that for there to be a God, life has to be all sunshine and rainbows. I will never understand why people thing that God owes them anything. But that’s a conversation that we can have over email. I don’t want to launch into apologetics on this person’s post. We’ve already hijacked it enough as it is.
*think
whiskered-fish, honestly give me an example of this super natural stuff! i’m your friend and as your friend i won’t lie to you, i don’t know why you choose to believe in this stuff? but that’s one way of making things ok? an answer? all my life i’ve searched for an answer, i’ve attended everything trying to figure it out, finally i came to the conclusion, nothing that man say’s is believable, it’s right in front of your face, and it’s simple to understand, we are here because we can be, the conditions are right, and when they are not we won’t be. however i love heroes, there are heroes i see a few everyday. i believe in heroes! i love them! they are a special breed.
Once again, Rocketman, you can email me. I’d be more than happy to have this conversation with you there.
i love you dear! we can debate! 🙂 this isn’t war it’s idea’s and thought’s , like a think tank! believe me i’m thinking about what you say! you are sharp as a tack!
That’s very kind of you to say. Thank you.
That’s the truth.
Kninea, Excuse me I mean my little monster! 🙂 The human being isn’t anything magical or special, we are predators, like any other living creature on this planet, we kill to eat we kill to survive, long ago when we were just evolving we were scarred of creatures bigger than us, in order to survive which is the job of all predators, we became ruthless! unlike the other predators we evolved from we had the capability to learn, to Communicate and together build a better mouse trap, we are top dog, we are in control of all other living things except ourselves, we will never be good predators, we actually are living in good time’s at the moment, but yes that is a will change, we are growing more heartless, soon it won’t be a big deal to put people asleep that are unproductive, far as the rape murder a lot of individuals can’t erase their instincts, as a follow predator i enjoy eating steaks, baby back ribs, chicken, living creatures we raise and slaughter we are good at it! Bottom line, i never knew what i was it took years to figure it out, i was truly devastated but it is what it is! you can’t change the truth by going to Sunday school on Sunday and eating a big juicy steak on Monday, so where does that leave us? accept the fact that we are what we are, try to enjoy our time here as best as we can, you and i can’t change what we are it’s a battle that can’t be won, one day the earth will be pulled into the sun and that will be that. we are not special far as the universe is concerned we are only collateral damage. that will disappear, everything has a beginning and a end.
To me, it seems we are getting closer and closer to the end everyday. Because of our primal instinct we keep going and going and going, not worried about the wake of destruction we leave in our path. No one seems to notice that.
Perhaps you should look at the way we are moving from our animal nature. Think about the purpose of fear, anger, sadness, jealousy, envy, and so on. Each one serves an interpersonal purpose as well as a communal purpose from an evolutionary standpoint. Think about the nature of early man, before societal structure, before law and order, back to the time were were competing with other beasts to survive. At that point we operated on instinct and emotion.
While we more or less act like intelligent caged animals who complete tasks which give some false incentive, the cage in which we operate in is slowly molding us into new animal. The cage we are in now requires suppression of emotion, or at least require us to find different ways to channel emotions. How I see myself and most everyone on depression forums are the less than “fittest” people in the world, people who are forming, or who already have formed, disgusting maladapted coping mechanisms for their emotions. So perhaps it is you who is less evolved than the other cunning beasts, perhaps that’s the case if you’re finding yourself struggling to maintain your life. I know for fucking sure I am in no way evolutionarily fit to manage my life and emotions, in fact I should have been dead several times over.
