Most everyone I know use social media (Facebook, LinkedIn, twitter, etc). I’ve never gotten on board with those things (remember MySpace?) lol. I’ve never really tried or cared for any of those.
I understand that that’s what’s “in” at the moment, and I’m a weirdo for not using them. But…are they better for you overall or worse for you overall? Does it make you feel MORE lonely and MORE disconnected or less? I do miss out on “news” by not being on social media and seeing everyone’s “updates” or whatever.
Seeing everyone posting useless crap. Seeing how annoyingly “happy” everyone is (or at least appear to be). Honestly, I think those social media platforms just allows people to think they’re way more important than they are.
I totally love the internet and am addicted to it, but idk, I somehow never got into popular social media. Is that weird?

Thom Yorke, the lead singer of Radiohead, made an announcement about his solo album, Tomorrow’s Modern Boxes, in which he said he didn’t blame fans for having missed the album’s release. “It may be perhaps because you don’t engage with ‘social media’ in which case you have my utmost respect,”
I love Thom Yorke. Social Media? Not so much.
Good if used for it’s true purpose: connecting with people that you’d otherwise never see/talk to. Bad if it’s used for the purpose most people use it: to convince themselves and the rest that their life is great, even if it’s just the same as everybody else’s (sure there are exceptions), and hey, who’s actually measuring the worth of life? that’s just plain stupid.
Quit social media a few years back. To this day i don’t regret it, and i only look at it (but don’t have an account) when i’m looking for coupons or specific info about something. Other than that? just a recipe for seeing how people have to prove how they’re a special little snowflake… that does the same that EVERYBODY ELSE DOES.
After my dad died FB helped me keep connected to friends and family. People were kind. Reading other people’s trivia at times kept me from staring at my navel too much.
Once I decided my grieving was over (last week) I said goodbye and deactivated my account. Now I write letters.
Don’t forget, SP is social media, too.
of course its not weird
i only use facebook for messaging
its filled to the brim with fake and self-centered people, i dont post anything
Oh, I guess more people are unplugging from social media now. When SM caught on fire, I was like one of the few people who refused to use it, and everyone made fun of me.
I made a bunch of accounts for the sake of trying to stay in the know with my school friends, but as time went on, I started to very much dislike a lot of social media, especially the ones where people constantly post/send pics of themselves every second… It started to irk me a lot. Hell, at times when people say hashtag whatever it pisses me off (unless you’re just joking about it with a friend or something)….
Long story short, I have my FB account solely to keep in touch with fam and friends I’m unable to really visit, and not to lie to people about my life. I don’t post pictures anymore, or statuses or anything, I only really use messenger…

I have Facebook but I’m not even sure why lol, except that I talk to someone there
Neither. It’s evil.
You’re not weird for not using it. You’re probably quite intelligent … something in you was repulsed by social media. You didn’t just blindly follow the crowd.
The sheep don’t know what to do, other than obey the commands of the shepherd when their butt receives the stick. All they see is the ass of the sheep in front of them, and they follow.
Thank you for thinking for yourself. You’ve made the world a better place just by doing that.
