That’s what everyone tells you when you complain about someone else doing something that inconveniences you. They excuse the fact that everyone is a selfish arsehole with a point being that everyone ELSE in the world is also a selfish arsehole. but it sort of makes sense. The problem is, people are grown up being told these things, and more and more people on the other side of the story are getting away with doing utterly horrible things without feeling much remorse, because after all ‘it’s the way of the world’. BULLSHIT. The world wouldn’t be such a grim place if people had a bit more empathy, a bit more compassion, a bit more respect.
Let’s all be honest with ourselves though, we all can complain about the unfairness of life, I’m not original to have noticed these problems, just all of us that have (and care) don’t have any power to change the system. Maybe it’s because the system is fine just where it is, maybe this is as good as it’ll ever get, so I should just suck it up and sit on my hands for the rest of eternity

Yes a hundred times yes. You’ve hit on the reason why life is hopeless. The entire game is rigged in favor of selfish arseholes who can do whatever cruelty they want without any regrets, remorse or even accountability because “everyone does it”. Meanwhile those of us who are plagued with, I dunno a conscience, are the weak ones who suffer. It’s basically the law of nature and guess who survives.
The crushing thought is like you said: “the system is fine just where it is”. Even though we invent concepts of spiritual karma, religions and heaven/hell to convince ourselves that things aren’t as bad as they are, sooner or later we have to accept that the laws of nature apply to humans just like sharks and minnows.
