She’ll ask some general questions about you… sort of like a patient intake. She’ll also ask questions that essentially revolve around what brought you to counseling. You’ll probably discuss events, feelings, coping, and things like that. It will be an opportunity for you and her to get on the same page. If you’re comfortable with here and have a good professional relationship, so much can be accomplished.
She’ll most likely ask you what you want out of counseling and why you’re there. Don’t be afraid and make sure you answer honestly. I’m glad you’re going to counseling.
hey 🙂 idk about your situation, but i remember my first counseling apt. for my eating disorder when i was younger,i was really nervous. the best thing to remember is it is a safe place. i was 15 at the time and was really worried about what my dad would think if he found out how unhealthy i was. i was worried he would be mad at me. but my counselor told me she was there to help. idk how old you are,but everything between you and your counselor is confidential as long as no one is getting hurt or anything. it helped me so much to just talk, and to know she didn’t think i was crazy. your not either, okay? it’ll be okay.:) He/she might ask you about why you came to see her/him and go from there. just be honest. they can help.:)
My experience has been that they ask questions to make you come to your own conclusions. By guiding you to do the work yourself, then what is reveiled, will be held more dearly to your heart, and possibly a positive influence that shows up in your daily Life.
I remember back in my student days
I used to turn up to lectures late, drunk, stoned
This one time I was sent to see the student counsilor
My appointment was at 2:30, barely enough time to sober up
I turned up at 3:06 late, drunk and stoned
Sat down in the waiting room wondering exactly the same thing
Are they going to ask me about alcoholism, gambling, drugs?
There was a girl next to me sobbing about failing her course
I was about to ask her name just before I was called in
I was greeted by this women, and told to take a seat
She asked how I was ‘good, can’t complain I suppose’
She asked me whether there was something on my mind
Actually there was, I had been reading about it the night before
I had such conviction in it, absolute certainty,
It was playing on my mind and I could think of nothing else
I asked her how long we were likely to be as
I had an urgent appointment at 3:40 pm
Her lips moved but I couldn’t really pay much attention to
What she was saying.
Anyway, the meeting concluded and I told her I would
Make an appointment to see my doctor.
As I walked out of the room, I started to feel dejected and hopeless
Shit, I had missed the 3:40 at Kempton Park
My horse won at 8/1
At 3:57 I attended my second appointment at the student bar.
