I’m watching ‘Reign Over Me’ for the second time in a row right now.
I just thought I’d make a post, but anyone who is here and depressed/suicidal etc because of a loss whether it be a break up, death, missing, anything. I really reccomend you watch the film Reign Over Me. Infact, even if you’re just suffering from depression you might be able to relate..
It’s Adam Sandler, so you might think it’s a comedy but honestly it’s not. He plays a man, broken by all of his family dying in the 9/11 attacks and blocks out all memories as if all of his life before never happened. He forgets everything and sits in the dark a lot.. suffers from seeming to be extreme depression. He seems quite stuck too.. he’s alive but not really living, sorta thing. One of his old friends tracks him down and tries to help, much like a lot of people try and anyone whos been there will know, people think they’re trying to help but really they just can’t.
It also highlights on how injust the world can be at times.. I’ve watched this film before but this is the first time I’ve ever related to it. There’s one scene that stands out for me, it’s in the courtroom. They’re deciding whether to put him in a phyciactric (can’t spell today) ward for another year or not, and they just can’t see how hard it is for him. They treat him like he should just get over it and one of the lawyers starts talking about his wife, and children and forces him to look at pictures causing him to break down, and theres not an ounce of care in a lot of people..
It just related to me, I guess. I have a lot of people who think I should just get over it and think they’re helping when they just can’t..
It’s a beautiful movie.
